Same thing happened last year. Chandler was DPOY and didn't make first team. The difference is the DPOY Award is media voting, and All Defense is coach voting.
only qualm i have about these is marc being second and tyson being first... that should be swapped...
and it seems like coaches are always a year or a few late. both to give credit and to stop giving credit. it took forever for Tony Allen to make team 1, Chandler makes team 1 a year too late, Kobe kept making all-d way past him time, and so on. i won't be surprised if Hibbert makes one of the teams next year, to give credit for this year
I personally find it quite difficult to give the All-defensive 1st team vote to a center who average 7 rebounds and less than 2 blocks a game. But it's only me, I guess. Marc Gasol is the anchor of the best defensive team in the league last season. But him getting the DPOY award is a joke.
these awards have become a joke, m.gasol in second team and in what univers is lbj better defensive player then p.george or iguadala
Did the "voters" forget to watch the Pacers-Knicks series, where the Knicks are making Hibbert look like Hakeem in the paint swatting shots? Chandler is getting torn up by Hibbert Hibbert should've been on the all-defensive team.
The First and Second Teams have a lot more credibility than the of-the-Year awards. I'll take the word of coaches who have staffs devoted to writing scouting reports on opposing players and contending with players and tactics trying to overcome defensive players over the word of journalists watching on TV. The Executive of the Year award winner was a joke. The Coach of the Year was suspect. The MVP was obvious even to people living in Torra Borra. I'm not sure why you'd put much stock in the choice for DPOY.
I guess a Lakers fan would be an authority on players being undeservedly named first team All-Defense.
Kobe Bryant finally kept off the list.... 10 years too late, but it is a start. The guy has been a terrible defender for a long time.
or in other words, Marc Gasol became the first DPOY to finish only 3rd at his position in All-Defense voting.
Dwight had down year, this season and he was not too spectacular at defense. The selections could've been better this year, but this is at least better than usual. Especially leaving Kobe off, finally. I swear to God, he hasn't be a really good defender, since 07-08.
4th actually Larry Sanders had more votes, but they decided to classify him a forward to get Gasol into a team, rofl.
Chandler anchored a defense that was as "good" as the Rockets. What a joke that he's in the first team.
