I mentioned it before, but MP was a great player back when I was in high school with him. He had to play behind Wayne Taylor who ended up going to Stanford as a catcher, but this kid is good. Really glad to see him playing well, and he has always had pop.

Whats the story with Chia-jen lo, is he hurt again, or in extended spring training.

He's been spectacular whenever he has pitched. Given the god awful performance of our bullpen I'm want anybody in Houston, Chapman ,Stoffel, Lo, Zeid, someone.

Am I missing something or is the pitching tandem over in CC? David Martinez went 7 IP today with over 100 pitches

No, someone fell asleep on the job.

George Springer just hit home run #12. Solo shot puts Corpus up 9-2 in the 7th.

Ok yeah I just realized the milb site combined both folty and Martinez's stat lines for some reason. Wonder how long until springer is called up, I know his K numbers are pretty bad, but I think we just have to learn to deal with the fact that he will strike out quite a bit

Didn't this happen with the Astros a few games ago? What exactly does it mean?

Not sure what the caused the protest.

Anyway, Lance McCullers had a nice outing, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking 3, and striking out 6 in 5 innings of Game 2.

One of the holes in our farm was supposed to be the lack of front end starters

    Jarred Cosart 2.18 ERA 10.6 K/9 1.18WHIP .207 BA

    Asher Wojciechowski 1.75 ERA 8.8 K/9 1.00 WHIP .198 BA

    Mike Foltynewicz 2.83 ERA 10.0 K/9 1.40 WHIP .250 BA

    Nick Tropeano 1.70 ERA 8.8 K/9 1.11 WHIP .241 BA

    Lance McCullers 1.71 ERA 9.9 K/9 1.26 WHIP .242 BA

    Vincent Velasquez 3.93 ERA 11.5 K/9 1.05 WHIP .209 BA

Other guys are having great years, but these 6 appear to have separated themselves, stuff wise anyhow.

Cosart and Woj are out of the tandem system now, I'd like them to go to a partial tandem in CC. Nitro and Folty need to be treated like regular starters.

    Saturday Stories

    Craziness in Lancaster.

Let's play 2 in Davenport! Again!

After a horrible start to the series, George Springer got himself going.

    Recap

Salt Lake 6, Oklahoma City 4

The Redhawks dropped the opener after Wes Musick was stung for 3 runs in relief of Ross Seaton, giving the Bees a 6-1 lead. Che-Hsuan Lin smacked a 3-run home run (1) in the bottom of the 9th, but the rally was snuffed out.

Ross Seaton went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 1. Musick was tagged for 3 runs on 4 hits, and he also walked 3 in 2 innings. Science Guy threw 2 scoreless, allowing a hit and fanning 2.

Austin Wates was 3-4 with a steal (1, 12 season). Lin finished 2-3 and had a sac fly in the 5th before sending one out. Carlos Perez was also 2-3 with a run scored. Jonathan Villar went 2-4 with a steal (13).

Game 2 pits Jarred Cosart against A.J. Schugel. First pitch will be at 7:05.

    Corpus Christi 9, Frisco 3

A 6-run 3rd blew the game wide open and gave the Hooks an 8-0 lead off a rehabbing Martin Perez.

Enrique Hernandez got things started with a 2-run shot (3) in the 2nd. Then the fun started. George Springer hit an RBI double to kick things off. Jonathan Meyer hit a 2-run single and advanced to 2nd on an error. Erik Castro, who finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored, then chipped in with a 2-run double. And finally, Michael Burgess had an RBI groundout. Springer, who finished 3-4 with 2 runs scored, iced it with a solo shot in the 7th, his 12th of the season.

David Martinez went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs (his first allowed as a starter this season) on 6 hit, walked 1, and struck out 3. Mike Foltynewicz finished it out, and he gave up an unearned run on 2 hits and struck out 1.

Martinez's ERA rose to... 1.25, and as a result, the new ERA leader in the Texas League is now Jake Buchanan. Martinez dropped to 3rd.

The series concludes at 1:05, with R.J. Alaniz and Matt Heidenreich taking the mound. They will face Carlos Pimentel.

    Lancaster 10, Stockton 6

Holy crap. After falling behind 6-0, the Jethawks rallied for 3 to cut the deficit in half. It remained that way until the 8th, and all hell broke loose. They erupted for 7 in the inning, and Matt Duffy provided the cherry with a grand slam (6) with 2 outs. But, you won't believe how they came back. Here is the sequence of events.

    1. Brandon Meredith started the inning by reaching on an error.
    2. Nolan Fontana then hit a single to put runners on the corners.
    3. Joe Sclafani struck out for out #1.
    4. A wild pitch from Jose Macias allowed Meredith to score. 6-4.
    5. Andrew Aplin was out #2 (groundout), but Fontana advanced to 3rd.
    6. Jonathan Joseph (yes, that's really his name) came on in relief of Macias.
    7. A wild pitch allows Fontana to score. 6-5.
    8. M.P. Cokinos walks.
    9. Preston Tucker strikes out.... but he reaches 1st safely. Runners on 1st and 2nd, still 2 outs.
    10. So did Telvin Nash. He also reached 1st safely. Bases loaded, still 2 outs. Also, Nash earned himself a golden sombrero with that strikeout.
    11. Tyler Heineman walks. Tie game!
    12. Duffy sends everyone home. 10-6.
    13. Meredith strikes out. So... 4 strikeouts in the 8th, but they'll probably take the win.

Tucker and Meredith were both 1-4 with doubles, and they both scored twice. Heineman also had an RBI single in the 5th. Sclafani added an RBI single of his own in the 6th. He scored on Cokinos' groundout later in the inning.

The first 3 innings went well for Tyson Perez, but the wheels fell off in the 4th, as the Ports got all 6 of their runs off of him in the frame. He went 3 2/3, allowing 7 hits (3-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 1. Jonas Dufek stopped the bleeding, allowing a hit and fanning 1 in 1 1/3. David Rollins tossed 4 scoreless, allowing 1 hit and striking out 4. Thanks to the comeback in the 8th, Rollins got himself a victory.

Kyle Hallock will be Luis Cruz's new partner. They'll be on the mound for Mothers' Day, and first pitch will be at 2 Pacific. Stockton will counter with Jake Brown.

    Game 1: Peoria 6, Quad Cities 3

Like Friday, this doubleheader didn't get started on the right foot.

The River Bandits put up 1 run in the 3rd-5th innings. Jesse Wierzbicki hit an RBI double in the 3rd, Carlos Correa an RBI single in the 4th, and Brian Blasik hit into an RBI force out in the 5th. Rio Ruiz went 2-2 with a walk, and Jobduan Morales was 2-3 with a run scored. Correa also scored a run and walked twice. Teoscar Hernandez went 1-3 with a steal (11).

Dan Minor went 4 innings and allowed 5 runs on 9 hits (solo homer to Jordan Walton) and struck out 2. Mike Dimock pitched the remaining 3 innings and allowed another solo homer to Walton (the only hit he allowed) and fanned 3.

    Game 2: Quad Cities 3, Peoria 2

The River Bandits avoided the ignominy of being swept in 2 straight doubleheaders by walking off with a victory.

Ariel Ovando had an RBI groundout in the 2nd and a sac fly in the 6th that put QC up 2-1. Terrell Joyce was the hero, going 2-3 with the game-winning single in the bottom of the 7th.

Lance McCullers threw 5 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. Mitch Lambson threw 2 innings, but he allowed the game-tying solo home run to Jacob Wilson with 2 outs in the 7th. He allowed 1 other hit, walked 2, and struck out 4.

The starters for game 3 of this series has yet to be determined. First pitch will be at 2.

    Three Stars

    3.

    Che-Hsuan Lin, CF, Oklahoma City
    2-3, HR (1), 4 RBI

Wow. I can't believe that no one's started a thread titled "Che-Hsuan Lin is a Joke!!!" yet. I know we got LOHs here in the Astros section... they've done an excellent job of masking their true intentions.

The above statement was made in jest. Honestly, if I ever saw Linsanity on a baseball field, I'd probably be rendered incapable of distinguishing between what is real and what is fantasy.

    2.

    George Springer, CF, Corpus Christi
    3-4, 2B, solo HR (12), 2 RBI, 2 R

After going 0-5 with 5 strikeouts in the first 2 games of the Frisco series, Springer got himself going with a solid night. The past 3 games have demonstrated his offensive volatility and his massive potential. The season's already FUBAR... but I think this might be the most reasonable scenario regarding George Springer's progress through the system:

    1.

    David Rollins, P, Lancaster
    W(3-3), 4 IP, H, 4 K

Not an easy feat pitching 4 scoreless in The Hangar. Rollins got rewarded for his efforts once the madness began in the 8th.

    Honorable Mentions

Lance McCullers, P, Quad Cities: An absolute steal for an overslot signing. McCullers has more than lived up to the hype. He could be a possible top 25 prospect by midseason.

Mike Foltynewicz, P, Corpus Christi: The Hooks broadcast had Folty consistently in the mid-to-upper-90s. Yeah, he only got 1 strikeout, but he induced plenty of weak contact.

    Matt Duffy, 3B, Lancaster:

Erik Castro, 1B, Corpus Christi: As we all know, Lancaster hitters haven't exactly had the best of times in Corpus. Castro certainly didn't help himself with that slow start, but at least a decent season could buy himself some more time.

Ugh.. here we go again, Telvin Nash.

So close to a two pitcher perfect game. Second to the last batter walked (double play followed)

DD had an error earlier in the game also so that didn't matter.

No-no should be #1 on Tellitlikeitis' list tonight (that is unless Cosart does something spectacular).

I realized that a bit after I posted here, my bad.

I dont think Cosart can do anything that will be better than a no hitter. Unless he gets a no-hitter himself of course

Impressive - all of our affiliates except low A are leading their respective divisions. The one exception, Quad Cities, is in 2nd.

Is Jio Mier still considered a big league prospect? He's been playing a little better as of late, another homer today

Look at his OBP. Then at Villar's OBP.
