Right off the bat, this won't happen regardless of a Kobe amnesty. Morey isn't going to give the Lakers a chance to do that when he could potentially get Dwight himself.
Why would Morey, who everyone knows is going to go hard for Howard, give the Lakers a star player so it'll be a no brainer for Dwight to resign there?

I don't see that happening either but Morey cant stop the Lakers and the historic resume from doing what they do best. Why you think that franchise is the best in the NBA. Their resume speaks for itself, lol players will wont to play for them. And David Stern cant stop Chris Paul from going there now either...hahahaha

I agree. If the scenario includes trading Gasol to Houston it's probably not happening if Morey only has his eyes on Dwight or even CP3.

The last time Morey didn't mind helping the Lakers because he had no shot at getting Paul or Dwight.

This time Morey has a shot at those guys and I'd like to think he'd just say no to Gasol and for after Paul or Howard himself. He has the leverage. If he gets neither he can still get a good vet PF if that is what he wants. There is still Millsap, Jefferson, Smith out there...he doesn't have to trade for Gasol at all here and all of those guys are younger IIRC than Pau any ways.

There is a benefit to getting Pau though over those other guys (Millsap, Jefferson, Smith) and that's his two year contract that expires in 2014.

That FA class will be filled with guys who will be ring chasing though (Melo, Dirk, old guys at this point.)

The 2015 FA is the big upcoming class. So That includes guys like Rondo, Monroe, Paul George, Wall, Favors, and Cousins. These are guys we mostly think as still young and should be nearing their primes for a huge contract at that time. So there is a benefit to getting a short rental like Gasol. At this time we'll know for sure how good guys like Asik, Lin, and Parsons is as well.

This is why Morey has done a great job. He's made the team very flexible. They have many options to improve instead of just one.

So because of the Lakers historic resume, they can make Morey give them a small contract so they can keep Howard AND add CP3?

I agree with you that it won't happen, but you're dead wrong about morey not willing to take pau to make it happen. Simmons was using Houston as an example. Any team that under the cap could make it work, and pau gasol on a one year contract is very attractive to teams. If Dwight decides he wants to stay in LA and get CP there, with them amnestying Kobe (which I know won't happen), morey would definitely jump on gasol.

So teams can negotiate and reach verbal agreements starting July 1. Then officially sign contracts on July 12?

They won't make him do anything. Morey would be quite happy to have a star power forward and maintain cap space for the following summer.

Let's face it, BimaThug is now famous. He gets mentioned on most RocketsCast Live episodes and now he gets tossed a bone from Larry Coon!

Bima, don't forget us here at clutchfans when you get your first analyst job for ESPN or some other sports network!

It's one of the things that makes this website great.

And if you do leave, Bima, remember, it won't go over on ESPN as it does here:

"I'm not calling you stupid, but your intellect is challenged, and your cogitation leaves much to be desired. Other than that, good post." ;)

That article and subsequent commentary are vomit inducing. It just shows you how much the rest of the league, players, commish office, and OTHER GMs have to bend over backwards to enable the Lakers to continually be on top. This article mathematically ruled out any sort of dream scenario EVEN IF every single move happens grossly in the Lakers' favor (Nash for Lowry and Terrence Ross? ROFL). They are gonna have to tear it down and rebuild like the rest of us once Kobe is gone. So screw them.

Bill Simmons just wants to say, hey look, the Lakers even amnestied Kobe.

Kobe will be about a 15/3/3 player next year, and he might, be able to get himself to a 20/4/4 player again the following year, his efficiency will probably take a further hit, but that's probably the extent of what's left, a slightly inferior version of Washington MJ is really the best they can hope for.

P.S. Lakers fans believe the refs are against them (yes I'm serious...)

I didnt say that, so dont put words in my mouth Red lol. I hope the Lakers fall hard just like the rest of us. But IMO the league will keep them relevant.

Question: Why are there still talks about CP3 going to the Lakers? The Clippers have a nice squad, wouldn't you agree to that? So why would he leave?
