You have to understand that just because you are given a title of "teacher" doesnt mean that you actually teach. You, along with thousands and thousands of teachers can be amazing. But, there will be the hundreds that are completely moronic. Just like not all cops are here to protect the citizens, not all teachers are capable of teaching kids.

Im glad that you are so passionate about it...I wish the teacher in the video had the same mindset as you do.

There is a proper way to call them out. Allowing students to disregard the authority of the position in the classroom is not appropriate. Is there a worthless teacher? That is where the parents should obtain the facts from the kid and the proper grievance process followed. Allowing disrespect from the students is allowing the inmates to run the asylum. The end result isn't pretty.

There are a lot of worthless people in nearly every profession.

How many of you can honestly say that you push yourself to do better while on the job and you wake up with a big grin on your face every morning, eagerly to get started on the day's work?

I was wondering why this thread was still growing until I saw so many ignores and requotes from trollo-d.

Those news stations picking up the youtube vid are pretty trashy and tabloidy. They show you the youtube and then ask you to send them comments about "how you feel". Why people even bother watching local news to parse the garbage from the 5 minutes of useful info is beyond me.

I remember kids like this in high school. They were the ones that said they were smart but just didn't care to so homework because it was stupid. I think they are still waiting tables or selling drugs.

How do you know what kind of mindset she has from the vid?

Because she cant come up with any sort of response to the kid. If she was passionate about what she does, she could come up with a more articulated or caring response. Her tone of voice coincided perfectly with the kid's accusations of just throwing packets to the students and having them learn on their own.

Not sure what high school you went to...but the ones that were waiting tables and selling drugs were the ones that didnt care enough to confront a teacher.

If I showed up to a class and from the first day, the teacher showed zero motivation or care towards my education, then I have no reason to show them "proper" protocol in calling them out. You have to show respect to get respect.

She shouldn't have to answer to the kid. She is the authority figure. If she is not meeting her obligations, there are procedures in place to bring it to the attention of the administration and have it addressed.

If we teach our children that it is ok to have no respect for positions of authority, we should not be surprised when they grow up without respect for anybody, for authority or for the law.

This is simply a no brainer.

I highly doubt this was the first time the kid had an issue with the teacher. At some point, it doesnt matter what authority position you have, if you dont act and behave in a manner that is appropriate with the position held. Im sure he could have maybe handled it better, but he makes decent points in his rant. He's clearly frustrated because he wants a teacher that cares more...and that's not a bad thing. At least he spoke up, unlike the other 25 kids in the class who are just sitting there and giggling.

And just because you dont respect authority in every single case does not mean that you dont respect authority in general. I have all the respect for positions of authority, elders, etc... I always say "yes sir" and "yes maam" to those that are older than me. However, I will speak my mind when a person of authority is out of line...and I'd do it on the spot rather than wait for some protocol that I should be following.

In the second video they said the kid was not being punished as of yet and would be meeting with the principal to discuss what he said, has it been said what came of that? I wonder if they sided with the kid or the teacher. Could set a dangerous precedent in that district.

The teacher probably only got a slap on the hands, while the dude got bribed with a gift certificate to Supercuts for a year.

You take a school full of kids and let them get away with that and you will very soon lose control of the school. Not a good situation.

Not only that, teaching kids that this is ok is not a way to encourage respect for authority and speaking your mind when it is appropriate.

After reading this, I'm fairly certain you've never stepped foot in a public school.

If what you described is the case, there would be no s*** teachers. Or at least no s*** teachers that weren't also first year teachers.

But of course there are s*** teachers who have long been in place. And that is precisely because they aren't held accountable to the students and parents, but are rather dealt with through some messy bureaucracy.

Are you serious? You judge her teaching skills based on how she reacts to a student who throws a tantrum in class? cmon man, that's not being fair to her at all. Everyone reacts to loud screaming teenagers in different ways.

Yeah...I can't believe I didn't see how letting a bunch of teenagers berate the teachers is the answer. You know...except for the fact that it is an insane solution to the problem.
