Looking for something inside the loop, preferably near the med center (north or south of it), but willing to commute a little more if necessary like near the heights as well.

Any recommendations? Hoping for more modern/updated amenities like wood floors stainless steal appliances etc but not really a must. The number one factor is safety but then again is that really possible in the heart of Houston?:(

Dude, you need to tell us what you're willing to spend a month for rent. In the areas you're looking at prices are a lot different depending on the property, age, location, etc. What are you able to afford per month? How many rooms you need, how big of an apt. are you wanting, etc.

knew i forgot something! 1100-1300 is pretty much the range. 1400 would be pushing it and have to be perfect

If thats the case why not try Eldridge near the energy corridor. This is where i live, there are some pretty nice apartments and the prices fit your range. The commute is not bad as well. I pay 1200 for my two bedroom and it has pretty much all the amenities you mentioned and it's very safe.

Plenty of place near the med center for that price. Don't know the names off hand but it's your job to do the research not mine. But look at the Old Spanish Trail and Kirby/greenbriar area. There are several apartment complexes there ranging in price and quality. I don't totally understand your issue with safety there but it's about as safe as anywhere else, assuming you are somewhat safety conscience and not being careful.

There are also a few nice places along south Braeswood a
    between Kirby and buffalo speedway.

I believe they have, I've avoided that route because of that reason so thats not a definitive yes lol. I usually take briar-forest and use the dairy ashford route to get on Katy Fwy.

They've torn up pieces of Dairy Ashford and Westheimer too. Regular traffic it's not much of an issue, slows down rush hour though pretty bad.

Ehh convenience I guess. Both I and the misses will be working in the med center and the closer the better.

Umm I'm sorry? I don't think I was really asking anyone to do any research just for recommendations since I'm sure people have more experience with that area than I...
I guess I feel like you pay a premium you don't expect your apt or car to be broken in to. Of course I'm realistic, stuff happens but I've read reviews where some places are better than others about that(i.e. security, gates, patrol, cameras). I'll keep that in mind about OST and south braeswood thanks

It is insane to suggest that you live off Eldridge and commute to the Medical Center. That would be a nightmare. That area is cool, I guess, but you'd be fighting all the Katy people in traffic unless you work weird hours.

I also think the Old Spanish Trail/Kirby apartments would be above that price range.

I would recommend some of the apartments on Almeda near Old Spanish Trail. I lived at AMLI at the Medical Center for two years. There are a couple other decent apartment complexes near there.

You'd be right next to 610, 288 and 59 (getting to and from Toyota Center was a breeze). Also, there are multiple ways to get where you want to go in the Med Center. I worked at Rice for a while and I could get there in 5- 10 minutes any time of day (except during rodeo time).

As far as avoiding crime, I'd recommend getting a 3rd floor apartment. Seems like 99% of apartment break-ins happen on the 1st or 2nd floor. And get a dog that barks a lot.

Try the marquis at bellaire. It's located right next to the hcc off of 610.Lived there for about 2 years. Nice place with a lot of young professionals. Lots of single girls if your looking for that too. I believe i was paying 1298 for a 1 bedroom with a small study (1200 sq ft).

I'm pretty sure the OST and Kirby apartments are in his price range. I lived there for a while and did some price shopping for myself and others a couple years ago. For the most part I found prices range from 1100-1400

One coworker just moved into Upper Kirby place and likes it. But like I said, just drive down OST from Kirby to fannin and then down south Braeswood from briar green to buffalo speedway. You will see a ton of options.

Who in their right mind recommends the energy corridor for someone working in the med center, especially when they already said and can afford to live much closer in town? Downright nonsensical.

And I'll just pretend neither of y'all spend any time ITL if you're genuinely concerned about crime.

For a two bedroom or one? If two, then that would probably be a better place than what I recommended if quick highway access isn't a must.

And again on safety, I think you can expect a few muggings and car and apartment break ins. Just be smart about not flashing your money and live on the 3rd floor and you should be OK.

    Try these guys:

    http://www.intheloopproperties.com/

They are the property manager for my apartment (1 bedroom in a Montrose 4-plex) and I've been very pleased with their responsiveness for whatever issues I've encountered (AC repair mostly). I've lived here for 8 years, and while there's been some petty crime (car break-in once, fourplex front door kicked in to get bicycles), I've never felt unsafe. Plus, there is nothing better than being able to walk home from work in less time than it takes most people to drive home (if I take the bus from downtown, its 10 minutes tops). You'll be amazed at how much more you can accomplish in a day (and how much more relaxed you feel) with a short commute.

BTW, if you do find a property with these guys, please PM me so that you can say that I referred you to them.

I lived in a complex a couple of blocks north of the Summit about 25 years ago. It was reasonable, easy commute to Med Center, and there were nicer apts next door too. No telling what's going on over there now.
