It was only a matter of time. Just glad its in the Eastern conference with a team that isn't going to be competitive for some time.

On a plus side, Houston just got in with a team that can be a good partner for making trades, and other moves in the future as well.

I think it's the opposite. The relationship angle may help, but odds are Hinkie will look for similar players Morey will look for.
The smart teams rarely trade with each other. I don't think it's a conicidence that the Rockets have recently traded with Kings, Suns, Raptors, T-Wolves and Nets, though that one obviously didn't turn out so well. (And yes, I understand the Rockets also traded with the Thunder -- after the Thunder had looked into trades with various other teams according to reports.)

Houston also traded with the Spurs (Scola) and Celtics (C. Lee) in recent years. Teams who think and evaluate players similarly may well be more likely to deal with each other as long as they have different needs. They speak the same language and both sides are confident that they are not being cheated. Besides, if two teams think similarly, the assets held by one teams is likely to be doesirable to the other one.

This is a real loss for the Rockets and a big gain for Philly. Very well deserved... not surprising at all.

Sam is very smart... had a big hand in a lot of the creativity of the Rockets' moves. Great individual too. He always made me feel like I was on his level when talking with him. He will definitely be missed.

Met him at summer league and ran into him a few times as an intern. Such an awesome guy to talk to.

He spoke at a partial plan suite holders event in the fall. Bimathug was there. Hinkie told the story of how he was the one who made the call to let Jeremy Lin go, before Linsanity happened. I think he said he made the call on the steps of his church at the Christmas Eve service.

Hate to lose him, but what an opportunity! Best of luck!

Well, the crappy teams simply may not have been interested in Scola, because of crappy scouting. :)

I think Lee to the Celtics was as much Lee's decision as anything. Celtics didn't have a lot of leverage, Rockets may not have been willing to pay Lee as much and even if they did, Lee wanted the Celitcs. Limited options for both teams.

You may have a point about value players similarly resulting in valuing assets similarly, however I think trades primarily get made when teams feel very good about them, which is rarely the case when you're trading $100 for $100 or even $110 with a 3-5% trading fee (chemistry and such -- arbitrary number obviously).

Anyway, good for Sam. Seems like a great guy by all accounts.

The results don't bear it out. We have been out of the 1st round once in the past 16 seasons. That is pretty bad.

We haven't been to the playoffs for 3 years and they decide to gouge us on the ticket prices. Don't forget about the whole CSN deal. I don't know if hinkie had anything to do with that, but the rockets as an organization haven't been very good to their fans especially ones that go to the games.

I'm telling you the whole league wants what Houston's got. And everyone is lining up to work for us because they know it's a great stepping stone for job growth. Sam is a a smart guy but no problem replacing as long as we got Morey. The problem is soon everyone will know all our secrets. I hate that. Morey is the NBA gold standard now.

Their beat writer definitely did. He called us morons for balking at Bynum, and said that Morey only made a bunch of lateral moves that never got us anywhere. The irony is almost too much too handle.

Hinkie knows all Morey's tricks. Now there is one team that we won't be able to fleece.

Morey should trade his assistants like he trades players.
