It's all just my prediction but I do not see Morey valuing JSmoov at more than 11 million a season. I can see a team like Phoenix or Philly offering him 14/4 or so and I think ultimately he will go with the higher offer. I also don't see Smoov as an option unless we got Dwight because he would be too much of a hinderance on our cap space. Then again I am not Morey, I do not know how much he values Smith's ability to block shots and defend on the pick and roll.
JSmith is not going to sign a 1 year deal. You can safely put him in the category of SELECT FEW. He's up for making max around 15million
All 4 of the remaining teams in the West are better than us top to bottom I think when you look at the way our team is currently constructed, there is no chance in the world we can ever be better or even as good as Golden State, Memphis, OKC, or San Antonio. The only matchup we have on our team that we may be able to take advantage of going forward would be Harden vs Whoever. But outside of that you've got Jeremy Lin vs Steph Curry, Tony Parker, Westbrook, and Mike Conley....negative at the 3 we've got Chandler vs Harrison Barnes, Kawhi Leonard, Durant, and Tayshaun Prince....maybe over Tayshaun.... at the 4....it's not even worth mentioning it, but I will. Greg Smith vs David Lee, Tim Duncan, Zach Randolph, and Serge Ibaka. (nuff' said) and at the 5 Omer vs Andrew Bogut, Boris Diaw, Marc Gasol, and Kendrick Perkins....over Kendrick and Boris sure, but not the other 2. So out of the 16 possible matchups (not including Harden) we are only better in 3 of them (Tayshaun, Kendrick, Boris). Which means I don't see us overtaking these teams any time soon unless we decide to make some changes to this roster....just my opinion tho.
Yeah, I mean I just dont have a clue right now what kind of value Morey has on Josh Smith. Its a huge guess right now, and obviously the opinions are divided pretty even on here with some SMART basketball fans. Also, when I mentioned before that Im wondering if he was in tier 1 (superstar), or tier 3 (1 year types) I wasn't saying the Rockets could get him on just a one year deal. Only insinuating that he's in a grouping of players they will go at if the price is right, and he doesn't kill their future flexibility for 2014.
You are severely underrating Parsons. I would take him over Barnes, Leonard and Prince. Obviously Durant is in a league of his own. We add Dwight, we have the best 5 out of that group.
See my above post. I dont think anyone knows for sure if he's up there with Dwight or CP3 in Morey's #1 tier other than those in the room with Daryl at the TC. FWIW, Jonathan Feigan basically stated that he's not in the class as the tier 1 few, and that the Rockets will only go so high on him for the right price. That's someone about as close as to the Rockets are we are going to hear speak publicly about it, and he seems to think he is tier 3.
I think you're underrating Leonard now haha. Kawhi is amazing, esp. as a perimeter defender. We need that quite a lot. Kawhi can bring most of what Parsons does on offense, but the defensive end is where he'd really stand out. I would take him simply for that as our current perimeter defense is quite laughable for the most part.
The Rockets are permitted to sign Llull, Aldemir and any other second round picks to which they hold rights to either a one- or two-year deal starting at the rookie minimum, regardless of the Rockets' cap situation. If the Rockets have any cap room left, they can give those players more (to the extent that the remaining cap room amount is more than the rookie minimum). To sign Llull, the Rockets would likely need to have at least around $3 million or so in cap room; hence, I don't think they'll add Llull this summer, especially if they cap themselves out adding a star. However, if they wait until next year, even if they are capped out, they could use the Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception amount to sign Llull. My guess is that the Rockets will sign Aldemir either (1) to a rookie minimum deal as outlined above, (2) to a multi-year deal using cap room, similar to what Parsons or Budinger got, or (3) to a 2-year deal using a portion of the Room Exception. My guess is that it's option (2) unless they don't have any cap room left over.
Are players generally aware of that, as it pertains to the agent's proportional cut? Just curious. Because if Dwight is, he should understand that Fegan's coming from a very biased and self-motivated position.
Your right. I wouldn't put him in the same class as Dwight and CP3 but he would be a major piece and select few if Morey signs him for 4 and 55.
I love Kawhi, I have a good friend who was at SDSU at the same time so he is one of the few players I have followed closely in college. Kawhi is very good and can defend with the best of them and has hands the size of the basketball. Chandler has shown he can be a shut down defender against the best of them. We just ask him to do a lot of the other end where he simply doesn't have the energy to do it all. Parsons is a point forward who can put up 30 in a game at any given opportunity in my opinion. I know Kawhi is younger but that shouldn't come into play of who is better at this given time.
Ok got it. I knew there was a hicky there somewhere but didn't want to dig for it. However we could S&T guys like Garcia and Brooks to other teams to help facilitate a sign and trade for Dwight coming here. I suspect if Dwight does decide to come here or somewhere else that the Lakers will be working overtime to get something back for him.
Unlikely if the contracts they get back are not rookie deals or expiring contracts. They won't want Asik. They've set themselves up with significant cap space in 2014. They want Dwight to basiclly tank a year and recruit a free agent in 2014 like Lebron. That's been their plan this whole time.
good point. I think Working SNTs are the wisest moves for all parties involved. Makes it easier, and has benefits for all like you said. I think the LA teams wont be happy and will play tough but when it comes down to it they will give in like Cleveland and Toronto did
I think a team in the luxury tax can't sign and trade. It's impossible for lakers to S&T Dwight. That's why they are desperate to resign him. If he walks, it blows everything up. Years to rebuild.
I highly doubt a S&T happens because there's zero incentive for us or any team to send the Lakers anything of value. It doesn't help Dwight at all to have a S&T, and if the Lakers lose Dwight, their focus is going to be on maximum flexibility for 2014 and beyond. I mean, I'm sure we'd give them Royce... but why would they want a guy who is pretty clearly a negative value? And beyond Royce, there's no reason for us to "help" the Lakers for no benefit to us or Dwight.
I understand your point, but for the relevance of this conversation it doesn't matter. If we play a team in a best of 7 and they all win their individual matchup against our team, I dont like my chances. And please give me an example of a team that was better 1-5 that lost to "the other team" in the playoffs?
