HS OF Ryan Boldt had surgery to repair a slightly torn meniscus in his right knee. Prior to the injury Boldt was considered a mid-1st round talent. He was ranked the 13th and 22nd overall draft prospect by Keith law and baseball america, respectively. He won't play again before the draft and may fall out of the first round. He could be in play for the Astros' 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Don't want to start another thread for this quibble, but can anyone explain why we DFA'd Mickey Storey for Carlos Pena in the offseason? Storey had a very good year last year, and would have been a huge help to our bullpen.

    Epic comeback in Oklahoma City!!!!

    Let's play 2 in Lancaster!

River Bandits back in action... Correa vs. Buxton will be getting a delayed start this year.

    Recap

Oklahoma City 7, Tacoma 6 in 10 innings

What a comeback. The Redhawks were about to lose this game 6-0 until they mounted an improbable comeback in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game. 2 flyouts had put them on the verge of a loss. Then, Marc Krauss singled to extend the game, and that led to this...

Jason Jaramillo hit a double to send Krauss home, and after 2 straight walks to load the bases, he would score on a Cody Clark single. The bases would remain loaded for Jonathan Villar, who sent the first pitch he saw from Bobby LaFromboise into straight away center field, and just like that, the game was tied. Yes, all 6 of their runs in the 9th came with 2 outs.

They wouldn't have to wait much longer for further heroics, as Brandon Laird scored the winner in the 10th after a horrid throw from Nick Franklin at shortstop. Laird had doubled with 1 out in the inning.

Brad Peacock, making a return trip to the Pacific Coast League, went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (3-run homer) and struck out 5. Science Guy allowed a run (on a solo homer) on 4 hits in the 7th. C.J. Fick walked 2 in the 8th, but he retired the side. Jason Stoffel allowed a run in the 9th, but he stuck around long enough to get the win. He allowed 3 hits and struck out 1.

The pitching matchup for Game 3 pits Asher Wojciechowski against Blake Beavan. First pitch is at 7:05.

    Corpus Christi was off

The Hooks will welcome Frisco to town as they kick off a 4-game series starting at 7:05. Jake Buchanan and Carlos Quevedo join forces to take on the Roughriders, who go with Neil Ramirez.

    Game 1: Lake Elsinore 7, Lancaster 2

This game was tied at 1... then the Storm pounded Luis Cruz for 4 in the 5th and Jonas Dufek for 2 more in the 6th.

Andrew Aplin hit an RBI single in the 3rd, and Preston Tucker sent one out in the 7th (6). M.P. Cokinos went 2-3, with both of his hits being doubles.

Luis Cruz allowed 5 runs on 4 hits (2 homers), walked 3, and struck out 3 in 4 1/3 innings of work. Jonas Dufek pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on 4 hits and fanning 2.

Well... game 1 didn't turn out too well. How did the nightcap go?

    Game 2: Lake Elsinore 4, Lancaster 2

Sigh. The Storm got a deuce in the 5th to sweep the doubleheader.

Lancaster's 2 runs came in the 4th, as Preston Tucker, who went 2-3, hit an RBI single, and Matt Duffy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Tom Shirley went 4 1/3 and allowed 3 runs (1 inherited) on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Travis Ballew allowed a run of his own on 3 hits and struck out 2 in 1 2/3. Kenny Long threw a 1-2-3 7th, striking out 1.

The Jethawks will look to salvage the series as they send Aaron West and Blair Walters to the mound. They'll take on Colin Rea. First pitch is at 7 Pacific.

Quad Cities 4, Cedar Rapids 2

On guaranteed win night.... the River Bandits delivered against the Midwest League's best team.

They got the win despite being held to 5 hits, all collected by the top of the order. Brian Blasik went 3-4 with a double and a run scored. Austin Elkins brought him home with a single in the 1st. Teoscar Hernandez hit a solo homer (2) in the 5th, which was the other River Bandits run that was an RBI. Jesse Wierzbicki scored on a double play in the 6th, and Jordan Scott scored on an error in the 7th. Blasik hit a single and as a result of that error, was able to advance to 3rd.

Brian Holmes threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 3, and fanned 8. He was pulled after allowing a triple and a walk to put runners on the corners.... with 2 outs in the 5th. Mike Dimock and his 'stache

got out of the inning. Jordan Jankowski got the victory, as he allowed a run (on a solo homer) on 2 hits and struck out 3 in 2 1/3. Mitch Lambson got the final 2 outs of the 8th, and John Neely got his 6th save of the season, despite allowing an unearned run (due to an error by Elkins) on a hit, walking 1 and striking out 2.

The middle game of the series pits Vince Velasquez against Hudson Boyd. No replacement piggybacker has been announced yet, since Joe Bircher was placed on the DL. Velasquez may go alone. First pitch is at 7.

    Three Stars

    3.

    Preston Tucker, RF, Lancaster
Combined doubleheader: 3-6, solo HR (6), 2 RBI

After a brief funk that saw him go 0-4 for 3 straight, Tucker has gotten himself back on track. He's actually been pretty consistent this season, although his walk rate has dipped slightly.

    2.

    Brian Holmes, P, Quad Cities
    4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 8 K

Not sure why he wasn't allowed to get out of the jam himself. Pitch count may have played a part. Holmes has allowed either 2 or 3 hits in all of his outings this season except for 1, when he gave up 5 runs on 8 hits on April 20.

    1.

    Jonathan Villar, SS, Oklahoma City
    Game-tying grand slam (3) in 9th

Can't get any more clutch than that.

Villar has always been young for his level. I imagine that he stays in OKC until June winds down.

    Honorable Mentions

Teoscar Hernandez, CF, Quad Cities: Could his power be coming around?

Marc Krauss, 1B/OF/DH, Oklahoma City: His single sparked what would be an amazing rally.

Brian Blasik, 2B, Quad Cities: Multi-hit games were his specialty at Greeneville last year.

    Goat

Getting swept in a doubleheader... and losing the lead in the division.

Extended spring training and will most likely be in Low-A . We have some interesting pitching prospects down there with Houser Musgrove Feliz and hopefully Armstrong (fast track as a reliver?)

Well I don't think anyone would have predicted us to lose all those pitchers to injuries.

Asher Wojciechowski threw 6 shutout innings for OKC, allowing 5 hits, walking 3, and striking out 3. He's in line for the win as the Redhawks lead Tacoma 3-0 in the 7th.

Thanks Blue Jays. I hope finishing in 4th place last year was worth it.

SnakeDiggity on Crawfishboxes did a great piece on Rule 5 eligibility this offseason and who is most likely to be taken if unprotected. Buchanan was on his list of potential draftees who could be taken after a strong season.

I'd say Buch's made that jump into likely draftee from possible draftee.

Considering he only threw 49.1ip last year he'll probably stay in EST until the short season teams start (Greeneville and Tri-City). I expect him to open at Tri-City (class A Short-Season) rather than repeat rookie league Greeneville.

Joe Musgrove is an interesting prospect to follow. He came over in the Happ trade too and threw less than 25ip each in two seasons in rookie ball. I wonder if he'll go back for a 3rd round of rookie ball or start at Tri-City.

I see them going to Tri-city too (I said low-A, is that the same thing as single-A Quad cities?). I'm curious about Musgrove as well. Why hasn't he pitched a lot? Is it injuries or what?

Unspecified arm injuries from what I've read. Nothing explicitly stated like a TJ surgery.

the phrase 'low-A' colloquially refers to class A specifically. There are actually three levels of class A: short-season, A and A advanced.

    Class A short-season = 'short-season'
    Class A = 'low-A' = 'A ball'
    Class A Advanced = 'Hi-A' = 'Class A+"

FYI, the appy league team (Greeneville) and gulf coast league team (Astros) are both in 'rookie' leagues but the Appy league is usually referred to as 'rookie ball' while the GCL team is often referred to as 'complex ball'

Good to see his power coming along. His k-rate's coming back up too :( He's had at least 1 strikeout in 9 of his last 10 games.
