Am I missing where he played a full season at 18/7 per 36? It's kind of silly to compare Tony Parker to Lin. A lot more Point Guards start off shaky and remain shaky, than those that start off shaky and turn into Hall of Famers. You could say "he's shaky, but so was Tony Parker!" for literally any player that starts off badly.
And what do you base your opinion on? Your eye test? Respectfully, I think the stats show that having Lin is very good for this team, and you are wrong on this issue.
I think it's funny that its still considered "hate" to think anything but good things about Lin and his game. Just for the record I voted Royce, but I have no problem with the people who choose Lin. I think his production is worth the contract, but I also recognize that if we were able to void his contract the situation would be Bev starting + 7.5 million in extra cap space to allocate somewhere else and that scenario doesn't sound all that bad to me. For some people it's not about disliking a certain player it's the ability to afford other players that might just be more beneficial to the team. And again that's not to diminish what Lin was able to accomplish this season, only recognizing other possibilities that are out there.
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are NOT trolling. Do you think it makes sense to ignore the following when evaluating Lin's value to the Rocket's or that of his contract? 1) He was clearly recovering from injury, in his first season as a starter and learning to play a new role as being a lot more off the ball than he would have expected to be as the starting PG at the start of the season and this was reflected in his stats. 2) He clearly improved through the season. 3) The last 2.5 months where he averaged 18/7 per 36 is actually a fairer reflection of where he's at as a player NOW than using the season average considering the context of the above? Because if you are going to completely ignore context when discussing the issue, then we would be too far apart to be able to have reasonable and rational discussion together.
The people who think Bev is good enough to start are completely clueless. Lucky for the Rockets, Morey is charge and not them. It's like all the D-Mo fans who were crying about him being buried being Patterson. Now we know, he wasn't ready. At least not to start.
I said Jeremy, but I could see reasonable arguments for White as well. Jeremy will cost us $16.8 million total over the next 2 years. White will cost us $1.7 million over just 1 year. White is obviously next to worthless. Jeremy's value will be determine by how he develops, not what he's delivered so far. IMO, he ranks below these players.... CP3 Westbrook Parker Irving Curry Deron Williams Conley Rondo Jack Wall Lawson Holiday Vasquez Lillard Rubio Probably somewhere in line with these guys... Bledsoe ($1.7 - Rookie Deal) Dragic ($7.5) Lowry ($5.8) Kemba Walker ($2.5 - Rookie Deal) Let's say he's the #18 PG in the league, but is paid in the #10ish range. His value is in what he may do, not in what he has done. Morey said we would not have made the playoffs without Jeremy, and that's true, but I would guess we probably would have with Dragic as well.
Yes I'm sure the last 2.5 months of the season where he averaged 18/7 per 36 is a fairer reflection of where he's at to you, since your one of his supporters. Should we only judge Harden for his first half of the season then? Since he was battling injuries the entire second half? He doesn't seem to get that benefit, why should Lin? I'm not going to ignore the first half of the year where his shooting was incredibly awful, he clearly thought he was fit enough to play otherwise he shouldn't have been on the floor.
Another good reason I wish Rockets could void Lin's contract is so all the LOF would disappear, good grief....
Does the fact that Lin averaged 18/7 per 36 minutes in the last 2.5 months of the regular season have any effect on your evaluation of where Lin is as a player now or his value to the Rockets? (I'm not even going into all of his intangibles)
Beverley absolutely could start if our lineup was something like say: Bev Harden Parsons Love Howard And if voiding Lins contract meant we could then keep Asik as a 3rd big plus have another legit bench scoring option, I think that would be something that would have to seriously be considered.
On your logic Clutch, Wouldn't that be T-rob? 0 production for $3.6million a year? You don't think Lin is performing under $4.7million (8.3 - 3.6) do you?
Definitely Royce White. He is a pox we need to be wiped clean of. I think Lin really stepped up near the end of this season and he will live up to his 8.3 million a year. Bev is not a starting caliber point guard.
Please don't strawman. I haven't said anything about Harden. But since you asked here is my opinion for the record. I think there is NO doubt that Harden's stats were affected by a number of things. He was played far too many minutes in his first season and you can see he was burnt out by the end. The minutes took a toll not just mentally but also physically. He was also poorly coached, by not being held accountable on D or at all really and allowed to ISO far too much. All of this impacted his stats and I think the first half of the season is a more accurate reflection, though perhaps not ENTIRELY, as you have to take into account the fact that the second half also reflects the acknowledgement of the rest of the NBA as Harden being the man to stop on the Rockets and defenses adjusting to and focussing on him. The funny thing is... if you go back, you'll find a post from me in one of the Mchale coaching threads somewhere around the all star break where I predicted exactly this, regarding harden. As to Lin... You can't say he was fit enough to play or he shouldnt' be on the floor. You can't get fully fit in the d-league or in training. Full return to fitness only comes from playing actual matches and this is true for ANY sport. It always takes time for any player to get back to their full strength (playing actual competitive games) after major injuries. I've answered your question about Harden. So here are my questions for you? 1) Do you not think Lin improved significantly throughout the season? 2) Why are the last 2.5 months not a fair reflect of where he is as a player NOW?
It must be very difficult to have your false preconceptions challenged by facts and statistics that are difficult to dispute.
Do you know who you sound like? The same people who thought Darren Collison was going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread in the couple of months when Cp3 was injured (I think it was on that team). Dude blew up for a couple months and he was as young as Lin, with just as much talent. Indiana said the same thing your saying and gave him a contract. Little dud everybody know, that would be his best couple of months! You can't use his last 2.5 months as a end all be all for the kind of player he will be. You have no idea bro
I wouldn't void T-Rob, but he is the contract I would be most willing to part with for someone like Pau
You must be joking... that's a completely different scenario... the way it works is... you have to VOID FIRST... so you void Lin and you don't get Love... then what? Even then... Beverely is not good enough to start. You're grossly overrating him. If I'm wrong, please provide something kind of evidence more than just your opinion to back it up as I have done regarding the value of Lin's contract. (18/7 per 36 for the last 2.5 months)
Lins not worth the money we pay for him. White will be gone soon enough...if we are actually getting a "void for free card" I wouldn't use it on someone that's going to be voided in less than a year already...and doesn't even make that much. Lin could be voided and resigned for what he's worth.
