Fixed They've done 'well' if you're talking box office $$$. However, I bet Juan was referring to just the quality of a movie. I tend to agree, with the exception of the recent Batman movies. They're just flashy, aimed to get as many people to watch as possible. Many of them are very entertaining, especailly if you enjoy superheros, but they'll never been on a critics list of top quality movies all time with movies like Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Casa Blanca, etc. They're the 'McDonalds or Olive Gardens' of the cinema industry. oh, and will not see dr stange or ant.
Guardians of the Galaxy has the potential to be epic, but realistically there's a lot of potential to fail too. Lots of sci fi jargon, makeup and special effects. The lack of attention to dialogue that plagues most popcorn sci fi movies... As for the name of Ant Man, who'd thought that Batman would be synonymous with the most feared crimefighter in the world? Or Spider Man being a beloved hero with strong name recognition?
Only difference is Ant Man wouldn't even be happening if it weren't personally for Edgar Wright. This has been a dream movie he's mapped out in his head for over a decade now but never thought a studio would bite on the idea. I think for a director to be such a legit fan and be a major reason (if not THE reason) the movie is coming to fruition, I'm confident he'll at least get it in the ballpark of a respectable adaptation. ****, if Edgar wasn't at the helm for this flick, I don't think I'd even bother seeing it.
Which Ant Man are they using for the movie? O'Grady seems more in line with the broad comedy movie concept. Pym fits in more into the epic movie concept (and provides for a good Avenger's villain down the road). Lang is more in the spy movie mold.
Dr Strange is the most interesting of those as a concept. I will wait for postive reviews before seeing Ant Man, Dr Strange or Guardians though, definitely won't be opening weekend candidates unless the pre-launch reviews are stellar.
I love how almost every superhero movie thread now contains people who come in just to say they're not going to see something. No one caresssssss. If you don't like the movies you're more than entitled to your opinion, but it's the same people with the same statement for every movie. Blah blah blah, yeah but they're not going to win any Oscars!
I'm only excited for Ant Man because Edgar Wright is directing, and I'll watch anything he does. Every one of his films so far has been fantastic. I know little to nothing about the character. Doctor Strange could be interesting. I don't know much about him but I remember watching the animated movie on TV I believe and enjoying it
I think the biggest difference between Spider Man and the Avengers vs Ant Man and Doctor Strange is you don't have to be a fan of comics to have heard of Spider Man, Captain America, Hulk, ect.... When I hear Ant Man I think of the cartoon Atom Ant.
