1 year deal could potentially make us a threat to make it out of the first round

I remember when Pau.G did not want to come to Houston but I really feel that he would welcome the offer. With that being said I still would prefer to go after a guy like Milsap or even j.Smith.

Pau G is only useful if we stand pat and keep our current roster in tact which is something that just might happen.Albeit I hate to help the Lakers do anything so id prefer stealing Howard and signing Milsap.

For a 1-year rental, sure. I'd take him and re-assess next off-season but this is ASSUMING we lost out on Dwight and Paul already. And have done our diligence on LMA and Love.

Guys think about it. If we don't have any option going into the start of next season, and Pau is available much like Harden at the same time, then we do it. IIRC he has 1 year on his deal, if he has more than 1 we say no.

Just through internal improvement, we are a better team. Then we add Pau? No he's not, 20/10 in 35mpg. But in 30-32mpg he can give us a healthy 17/8-9 and is hell of a post option for our ****ty half-court set.

You might be overvaluing Pau's trade value:

Pau Gasol: After talking to several specialists, I'm going to proceed to regenerate both of my patellar tendons and working hard to get back to my 100% Twitter @paugasol

i.e. Pau is off to Germany for treatment.

I understand that any team trading for Pau may have a potential health risk on its hands. But I can almost guarantee you that it would take more than Royce White and tax relief to get Pau in a trade.

I'm not talking about gutting the roster to obtain him. If the Lakers demand Parsons and/or Asik, Morey can always hang up the phone. But it will take at least SOMETHING of some value along with the tax relief.

Just 'if' - - If the Lakes were to amnesty Gasol what do you perceive the winning bid would be? I'm in the $8m column, but what do you think IF PG were amnestied?

Assume with me that the Lakers will only part ways with Gasol if they have a commitment from Dwight. Also assume with me that if they are going to trade Gasol, it will only to a team with major cap room. That is, a team that can trade little or no salary to the Lakers while absorbing Gasol's $19 million salary. Otherwise, the Lakers don't get the full $65 - $75 million in savings.

Now with Gasol undergoing, or just having undergone treatment in Europe, there will be no way for a team trading for him to accurately gauge his medical condition prior to the amnesty window closing (July 16th). So why would any team give up a nice asset, plus absorb a $19 million salary, when they can just wait and see if the Lakers' flinch and amnesty him? If they do, then the winning team can pick him up for $8 million or so, and not have to part with any assets. Come July 16th, with no buyers, I'm guessing the Lakers would not take the $65-$75 million gamble, and would go ahead and amnesty him.

At a minimum, the Lakers' lack of leverage will minimize any asset they could expect to receive in return. And don't look for Gasol to look to help the Lakers out in a trade by reporting for a physical or keeping the Lakers up to date with how he is progressing.

I'm sure we've all established Pau Gasol is Morey's Plan C.
    Plan A: Dwight Howard
    Plan B: Chris Paul

Laker Insiders have already said that either Kobe, Gasol or Howard will not be back due to cap reasons. So If the Rockets don't get Howard then bet on Gasol

We sign Gasol for 1 year and then we try to sign Lebron or Bosh.

I agree he would be a great fit, but for such a young team I think he is too old. His window is closing, and we are in the early stages of rebuilding.

He's probably getting amnestied, so we can just bid for the remainder of his contract, so if it's like a one year 10-12m bid or something, yeah why not.

why help them out by sending them anything that might have any use? they're so far over the cap that their roster would be hilarious next year if no one helps them out. right now, without signing Dwight, they're still 19 M over the cap, on just 8 players, one of who is terribly hurt, and only one is clearly still a above average NBA player (and not terribly hurt). if they amnesty Pau, they are still right at the cap, on 7 player, with no one who's above average and not hurt... that's... hilarious. can you imagine if their starting lineup on opening day next year is

C: random d-leaguer, maybe mid level exception guy
    PF: random d-leaguer.
    SF: Artest
    SG: Goudlock
    PG: 40 year old Nash

That's got the making of a 20 win season.
