Spoiler The only way a viewer knows it is a Bolton is if they've read the books or seen it online. (or heard it from someone who did either of those two) The character was not introduced prior to the torturing and there have been no clues during the show to hint that it was a Bolton. Heck, the Bolton name has only started to become relevant to a viewer with the latest episode.
Spoiler Not exactly, Roose told Robb that he sent his b*stard to liberate Winterfell in season 2, and then this season he said the Ironborn had burned it and slain everyone before he got there. Which is obviously a lie since the Ironborn were surrounded before knocking out Theon. Now viewers could speculate that an unknown 3rd party had Winterfell surrounded prior to Theon getting knocked out, and then Bolton's b*stard arrived and found it burned and everyone dead, but it isn't impossible for viewers to guess Bolton as a possibility without reading the books.
Spoiler Yep. There are other context clues as well. The cross-like thing that Theon is being tortured on is also the symbol on the flags of house Bolton that could be seen when the Bolton men captured Jamie and Brienne. So it's not impossible for someone to figure it out without having read the books, they just have to have a sharp eye and pay very close attention.
Spoiler There is also this clue for viewers: Bolton sigal Now look at Theon: Bolton even wears his sigil on his chest:
Trust me, the BBS is better than other forums, at least there is a spoiler button here! I just avoid the game of thrones thread on insidehoops completely, no way of knowing what kind of spoilers pop up. Also I was going through loads of game of thrones clips on youtube, and people love spoiling stuff there too
Spoiler So what's up book readers? Anybody else like trolling the people who can't read the spoilers?
Apologies about the spoiler discussions, but let me assure you they are not very interesting (atleast the ones on these pages). I've heard/read some criticisms about the theon storyline this season from non readers as confusing or extraneous and as a person who wasnt exactly enamored by them in the book, I'd have to agree. I liked theons monolgue about Ned his father and his escape and return scene but wish they had cut his scenes in ep6.
For the non-book readers, the spoilered posts are regarding whether something is or isn't a spoiler. As far as I'm concerned, if it hasn't been stated outright on the show, it's a spoiler. Even if you think the audience should have deduced this piece of info already, the fact is the show itself hasn't spilled the beans yet. There may have been hints and for book readers they may have been obvious. For non-book readers, maybe not so much. I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to know this, especially since the show hasn't come out and stated it publicly yet. That makes it a spoiler.

I think this show needs two threads. One for those who read the books (this one), and one for others. I can see how everyone wants to enjoy talking about the show without wondering what is a spoiler or not. And as someone who has read only the first book, I'm pretty much no longer reading this thread. Let's just fix this by starting a second thread for non-readers. thoughts?
This one is for the show, as evidenced by the title containing the season in it. There already is another thread for discussion on the books. <s>I tried searching for it, but search wasn't working right for whatever reason.</s>
It's been brought up more than once. But the book readers will simply stay here and remind everyone that they read the books. It's kind like OCD, they can't help it.
yeah, but that tag is explicitly talking about the books. not really the same as what I'm suggesting. I'm suggesting we just give up and give them this thread. And we start a new one.
but we could abandon this thread and start our own for non-book readers. It's futile to get them to stop spoiling this thread. I'm saying we could just give in and start a non-book reader thread. Why fight about spoilers? No?
