Feige hints at Phase Three release. <!-- Share This widget: END --> Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has revealed that work has started on a Doctor Strange movie. In an interview with Collider, Feige said, “Dr. Strange is something that I talk about often and it’s sort of next up for us to dig into and explore. Our executive producer of Iron Man 3, having done Captain America: The First Avenger and as that was finishing he started working on the bones that would become Iron Man 3, and now that he’s finished with Iron Man 3, he’s working on the bones that would become Doctor Strange. Now that Iron Man 3 is finished, some of our quote-unquote spare time is going to be devoted to trying to crack Strange.” A little bit of rummaging around on IMDb points towards that unnamed producer being Alan Fine. Feige went on to imply that Doctor Strange would fall into what is being referred to as 'Phase Three' in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will kick-off with Edgar Wright's Ant-Man on November 6, 2015. “As we look past 2015, past Avengers 2 and Ant-Man," said Feige. "I think Doctor Strange should be one of the next movies in the years following that.” If it was the next film after Ant-Man, that would point towards a April/May 2016 release date.
Ehhh... I am very skeptical of Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and these other super hero films like Gaurdians of the Galaxy, starring WWE's Bautista. I just don't see many people getting pumped up to see a superhero named Ant Man. And Doctor Strange sounds like a lame villain from Scooby Doo. I'm sure comic book fans (the ones who don't hate all comic book to film adaptations) will still see it, but outside of that... I don't know.
Same was said about all the Avengers, Spiderman, etc.... they all turned into $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Don't lump Dr. Strange in with those two losers. He is a very interesting character has a LOT more potential.
I don't remember hearing that about Spider-Man, but I definitely remember hearing people expect (and even hope) that Avengers would be a massive flop. OK, my bad. I will have to yield to you on that. I am something of a bandwagon comic book fan. I didn't have a single comic book as a kid and only started to get interested when the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man came out. Nowadays I own maybe 10 graphic novels and occasionally spend hours reading character bios, but I'm still not up to par with those who are genuine Marvel/DC/Other fans. But with that, I think I am approaching this from a position more like the general population. I was familiar with Cap, Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor, so I was OK with those movies and I personally looked forward to the once-rumored Avengers movie - even before Whedon's name was attached to it. Not to mention Batman, Superman, Spidey, and X-Men. I was even OK with Fantastic Four and Green Lantern. But as for these other guys... I don't know. Their brand isn't as well-known as those previously mentioned, and that's why I don't think it will be a success. I could be wrong, but I'll probably remain skeptical until box office numbers shut me up.
He said I don't know how many people would get excited about a superhero named Ant Man - you replace Ant with Spider - what's the difference? Lulz? These movies do well because the stories are/were interesting, the characters are/were interesting - not solely because they're "superhero" movies.
I've never liked "Ant Man" the name but the character Hank Pym could be good for today's darker comic hero. Unlike a lot of other superheroes he doesn't need to be reimagined as a darker complex and flawed hero since that already is part of his story. Dr. Strange also already has the makings of a darker superhero but needs to be handled carefully. Both of these characters will probably flop if they are done up Iron Man style with a lot of jokes and brainless action but I could see a director like Darren Aronofsky doing a great job with them.
The guy directing Ant-Man has previously directed the following: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, The World's End (upcoming, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost again). So... not exactly Aronofsky.
Recent history has been pretty good. I've very much enjoyed Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy as well as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and the Avengers. Some, but not all, of the X-Men stuff has been good as well. I even enjoyed the Amazing Spiderman.
Then it must be my age. I liked the second Batman and the second X-Men. And, I like Robert Downey Jr, though the Iron Man movies are otherwise forgettable. I'm just old -- been feeling my age a lot this year -- and it's expressed in part by a curmudgeonly attitude toward pop art in all its forms.
Yep. How you know you're getting old: decide you're not into superhero movies anymore, but click on the thread anyway.
I was a big fan of this comic growing up. So, I'm sure I'll be disappointed, but I have my fingers crossed.
That doesn't bode well. If they try to make action comedies with these characters I bet they will do as well as Green Lantern and The Green Hornet.
First class was a pretty good movie, especially compared to the first three. Have high hopes for Days of Future Past.
