Who at the time genuinely thought out of the three that Parsons would've been the pick of the three? Personally i had/still have high hopes for Dmo, his agility and skill at his size is very unique, but honestly had no idea what Parsons had in stall for us. Even thought Mchale had lost it when he demoted Budinger. Silly me.
I thought Morris had the most potential of the group. Would've never expected Parsons to become the player he is today. I think the first game against Oklahoma his rookie season showed us what he was capable of with his defense. Before that, he had us going crazy with his putback dunks.
Anybody who watches college ball knew we got a steal in Parsons. Morris thoroughly disappointed me tho.
Just recently I was talking to my brother about Parsons and I remembered how a lot of posters here actually wanted him to stay in France...
i remember people talking about 'OH ANOTHER TWEENER', had no idea he was as skilled/versatile as he was. A guy with his size/length who can move his feet, hit the open shot is a wanted commodity in this league..
Donuts is wearing his hat like a baller, practically calling Howard out......... ....... ....... .......
I still think DMO has huge potential. He has an already refined post game and has the ability to play outside as well. He is obviously a work in progress, but a player that is worth the work.
I remember people on this board saying that parsons was a scrub and that he would never be a rotational player in this league lol. Never judge a player without giving him a chance to prove himself.
Had absolutely no idea who Parsons until Parsonsanity with his put backs. Literally didn't know his name until then. How could I have missed such sexiness for so long??
Parsons was a legend with me and my college roommates. Whenever he was on TV we watched because we KNEW he was good for a monster putback dunk or clutch 3. Most people here think those putback dunks he had as a rookie were surprising but he did that SO MUCH at Florida too. Never thought he'd be this good though
I was one of the few people really glad we picked up Parsons. I remember tons of people getting upset and calling him a scrub a the time. Wish I saved that post and thread. I posted something along the affect that we had a small forward big enough to defend other big small forwards and was able to hit clutch shots for us. All I got back in response was "Wah! Wah! He can't even shoot FT's!" Now Parsons is a 72% FT shooter so suck it naysayers!
People that heavily followed college hoops (particularly SEC) at the time knew, and many commented on here that Parsons could have an immediate impact, and could possibly even beat out Budinger for the starting role. What nobody, not even myself, knew was how much more room for improvement he really had. Also, nobody knew he could have been that good on the defensive end in his rookie year. I do think that most educated basketball people knew Morris and Motiejunas were more high upside swing for the fences type of picks, but even those folks didn't realize that Parsons, even as the player he was coming out of college, was still a potential all-star swing for the fences pick.
Yup! I personally loved the Parsons pick, especially because it signaled the final nail in the coffin for the scrub Budinger we kept marching onto the floor. That being said, anyone who say that they saw Parsons improving to the level that he is currently at would be lying. Anyone who watched him play knew how smart and mentally confident he was as a player.
He really had the potential to be carmelo-lite but the rockets killed his development when they forced him to be more of a spot up shooter.
