No way. Asik and Howard would clog the lane as none of them are effective from mid range. Their collective FT shooting would hinder us in all games, all the time. Asik is too great an asset to keep if we have Howard. He'll grab fewer rebounds and fewer oppotunities to showcase himself - his value would drop quickly. Right now, we can deal him for quality pieces, why would we allow sentiment get in the way of finding a perfect fit at other positions? Always a bad idea to try to make a situation you "like" work. In terms of championship aspirations, I would deal Asik (and more) in exchange for an upgrade at the 4.

No doubt Asik is a quality C on a great contract. But when you have the best C in the league, you don't need a quality C on a great contract if you have other needs.

If we get Howard, the other PF/C will have to be able to hit at least 35% of their 3's.

I'm not sure about the Brady bunch, but if you look at the diversity of the starting lineup, we sure do look like a sitcom.

Could you also post the pnr stats for other potential free agent big men?

    Thanks in advance.

Dwight relies on his athleticism. He isn't a skilled player that can translate his game with age like Garnett, Duncan, Nowitzki, etc. He's had 10 years of wear and tear in this league which we know is a more important stat than age (T-Mac). Sure all of these stats are good, but in his 3rd-4th year he won't be the max player he once was. Plus he lacks heart on & off the court.

Don't know where you got this but where is Asik on the list for 12/13? And if you don't mind, would you put the list up for this past season for both the rollers and the handlers?

Another thing I'll say....we have the team that Dwight always wanted in Orlando...young guys full of energy and a fellow superstar in the backcourt. We've already got it. He's gotta wait a year and take a huge gamble in LA that Jim Buss can recruit Lebron or one of the Big 3 over there. And then he's gotta play through Kobe for another season or two as Kobe comes back off his injury. When Dwight thinks about it.......boy o boy o boya...

I love Chris Paul..but I'm not certain that having two guards who need to have the ball in their hands to be at their best is the way to go. I think Howard would provide the better complement.

Agreed...stretch 4's would eat us alive if our frontcourt were Asik/Howard.

Good article, but if we sign Howard, Asik is gone. They're redundant on both offense and defense. Howard can't really step out and hit a jumper, and while Asik may be able to add that to his game in the future, bottom line is they both would be clogging the paint which would force the rest of the team to shoot a lot more outside jumpers than necessary. As for defense, Howard doesn't wanna come here if it means he has to guard 4s on a regular basis. He'll wanna be the man in the middle.

Besides, Asik is too valuable a commodity after this season to not move him for a 4 or some additional help in the backcourt. Especially since any attempt to sign Howard would require the Rockets to let Garcia go.

Lebron leave Pat Riley for Jim Buss? Certainly an interesting choice....

That's simply not going to happen. Jim Buss has not a single thing on Pat Riley. The Big 3 will re-up in Miami. Lebron won't leave until he's on his last contract. He'll go back to Cleveland and try to help them win a ring in his last 3 years or so.

    Ohhh BleacherReport....

Hate to break it to you guys but Dwight and Asik will almost certainly NEVER see the court together at the same time if for some reason Dwight signs with the Rockets this Summer.

Any combination of "Twin Towers" that has been used in the past have had one of the two big men be able to at least play on the high post. Neither Asik nor Howard are capable of coming out that far away from the basket. Look at the past- Hakeem/Sampson, Bynum/Gasol, etc. Every single one of those cominations had a big man that could operate outside of the post.

Also, if your running the pick and roll, which Big is going space out to the 3 point line? If you wanting to post up either Big, which one will space the floor and be able to at least hit an outside jump shot?

If the Rockets acquire Howard, Asik moves to the bench for the time being, and its only a matter of time before he's most likely moved. However, I think the Rockets love the idea of having that kind of depth at the 5 spot for the time being.

Asik, however, might not be so happy with the acquisition if Howard plays like the Dwight that used to be a top 5 player the league, and forces him into low minutes. We could be so lucky for that to be the case.

I don't think so either, the only real hope they have in the next 2 years is one of the Miami 3 or Carmelo, and as little chance as I give miami to break up, i think Melo is even less likely to leave MSG.

Dwight's going to be 30 before they even have a chance to add another player, and I think Minnesota are more likely unload Love to a team who he'll re-sign with.

I agree with you on the FT shooting, but I am torn on the idea that Asik and Howard could not co-exist.

On one hand it would seem they would clog the land for penetration, but on the other hand Greg Smith and Asik did not, and there is nothing essentially different in the offensive games of Howard and Smith except that Howard is much better. Plus, the picks Asik and Howard could lay out there could create some interesting offensive opportunities.

Specifically though, what do you say to the Asik-Smith lineup as an argument that Asik-Howard could work?

Also, I agree 100% with the article that Howard would be a revelation on this team -- for his career and the Rockets. Even if we have to give up Asik, Howard should be the top FA target in the offseason. However, I disagree with the article 100% on Al Jefferson.

If we manage to get Dwight Howard and J Smoove, we would be the new Lob City.

EDIT: FCK Lob City, we would be SPACE CITY once again!

Could you post Lin's PNR stats please?

Morey just said on radio that according to his so called DEEP ANALYTICS lol
Lin is the 5th best at PNR in the league.

I'm a bit sceptical about Morey's deep analytics.
Who does he think he is? The GM of the Rockets or something with a team of 20 MIT mathematicians helping him?!!!

Lin scores .85 points per possession and is ranked 45th. Morey probably factors in things like turnover rate, assist rate, and filters out players in a different way too which probably is the biggest change.

Omer is actually surprisingly good, 1.02 PPP, ranked 56th.

Checked Tyson Chandler out of curiosity and he's at 1.32 PPP, so he's scoring more than Dwight and Omer. Not only that, he has only a 6% turnover rate and they have a 10% turnover rate. Not surprising since he's had great chemistry with all of the point guards he's played with, from CP3, to Kidd, to Lin during that stretch, and Felton.
