I wouldnt normally think he is mentally weak if it wasnt for all the reports of him tearing it up in practice. If you can tear up your teammates in practice why cant you play beside them in a real game?

Cautious? Apprehensive? probably but not "Soft". Yao was considered soft by plenty of people here but that couldn't be further from the truth. Yao just wasn't what people wanted him to be. Just like Rose may not be what fans wish him to be. Mentally weak defines his issues better. "Soft" defines more of a fear of physicality wich Rose when healthy has not displayed.

One is an injury and the other is a disability.

One is a franchise MVP player and the other has never stepped on an NBA court, much less sit on an NBA bench.

I can agree with that. Soft is probably the wrong word to use

Iman Shumpert tore his acl the same day as Derrick Rose and has been back playing at a high level for a while now. This is Iman Shumpert today with no brace, nothing, on his knee:

Not all ACL injuries are the same, and not everyone has the same repair capabilities.

But Rose is healthy.. so your points are invalid. Rose is healed, so it doesn't matter how different their injuries really were.

It takes a long time to build back confidence in an injured knee. Its not so much that he's scared to play, but rather that subconsciously he's going to HEAVILY favor the other knee and that could lead to complications in that one.

He's going to be active for game 3. Not much of an indication, but a step in the right direction.

I have defended him but if he ends up not playing at all he should have just announced he wasn't going to play from the get go.

Recovery from an acl tear takes 9 months max. It has been over a year. People need to stop acting as apologists for Derrick Rose.

I actually think he is scared to play because he is worried he isn't mentally ready to play. The risk of injury is probably directly on his mind and not just subconsciously.

You are talking about strictly physical conditioning. From what I understand, he is healed, but I think you are severely underestimating the psychological impact of his injury.

Plus, does nobody understand that IT ISN'T A GOOD IDEA TO THROW HIM OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTENSE, PHYSICAL PLAYOFF SERIES when he hasn't played competitive ball in over a year? WTF do you expect him to do? Just go play right now?! Sure, that's BRILLIANT! I know you don't feel ready D Rose, you are worried that you might re-injure yourself, probably favoring the opposite leg to compensate for this fear, but go ahead and jump right back into it during the middle of the playoffs!!!

Again, him and Shumpert hurt themselves on the same day over a year ago and Shumbert has been playing at a high level for a while now. Rose could have slowly worked his way back into things during the regular season like Shumbert did if the psychological impact was difficult for him to overcome so he could be ready for the post-season. As it currently stands, all I hear are a bunch of excuses. If it has been mentally difficult for him to overcome his injury even since he was physically cleared to play, he should have been seeing a psychologist this whole time. I'm unaware of him doing that.

Actually, it sounds like you're the one who doesn't understand.

Rose has been physically cleared to play, but he isn't ready mentally. You can try to rationalize it all you want, but it comes down to the fact that although his body is able, his mind is weak. That's called being "soft", and that's the point of this thread.

Do you understand? Is your MIND BLOWN?????

Cmon ... leave the dude alone, he was a former MVP and he surely has his own reason to choose not to play this season.
