Les screwed up big time by not keeping this guy. People will say east blah blah blah, but his two best players are out, most of his top players are hurt and this team got to the second round. People were saying the bulls wouldn't even make the playoffs. Nate Robinson is playing out of his mind (Natesanity??), but Tib's D is what is keeping them in their games. This guy without a doubt is one of three best coaches in the game. Heck I might even take him over pop.
yep..les scrwed up by hiring Rick Adelman..one of the best coaches of all time to coach a championship contender with Yao/Tmac..instead of taking his chances of promoting an assistant.
He's great, but I always have one doubt about grind-it-out coaches like him: he always gets 110% from his players all season, but does maxing out every game leave you vulnerable in the playoffs when you already plateaued? More specifically, does this style of play with tough defense and a limited offense have a limited ceiling in the postseason with low championship odds? Obviously this year the odds are against them with a depleted roster, but at 100%, can they win a championship this way? I sure hope so because they are fun to watch, but I have my doubts.
Dang...if Thibs coached Yao and TMac as opposed to Adelman??? interesting... But at the same time...the issue for Les i think was not the inability to play defense...but the lack of a fluid offense...JVG's team defense lingered one more year, and then disappeared with Yao and TMac both breaking down...
If anything, I'd say that style of play is suited best for the playoffs. Offense can be very up and down. There are some nights when you simply can't hit anything. Defense, on the other hand, can be maintained more consistently because it's mostly about effort and coaching.
That is true Adelman was a good coach, and offense sells tickets, but I wish they could have at least kept THib's for a year. He went to boston to be their Defense coach.
So, let me get this straight. The nets blow a big lead in the 4th quarter of game 3 and Nate Robinson turns into Michael Jordan for a 4 minute stretch and Thibodeau automatically becomes some great coach? Then the Miami Heat get 8 days off, get over confident and rusty, Nat Robinson again turns into Michael Jordan at the end of the game and we're going to crown Thibodeau?
It isn't about one game or one series. It is the fact they had no derrick rose or Deng. Noah their best player left is hurt. Kirk is out. Imagine the rockets with no Harden or Parsons and a hurt asik. What he has done this season is incredible, and even last few seasons.
Well, they beat Brooklyn in 7 games. Brooklyn isn't exactly a great team, and they stole 1 from an unmotivated, rusty Heat team. I need to see more before I crown Thibodeau. I don't see the Bulls even coming close to beating Miami 1 more time, we're looking at 4 straight coming up.
But the Bulls arent at full strength. They don't have their best players. It should be the BULLS who are not a great team, and it should be the Bulls are rusty and not cohesive. Its the East but Brooklyn was 4 games better than the Bulls in the season. They're beating these other teams who are at full strength. Its party on the coach for keeping his team in position to steal away the games. Its not like Thibodeau just put out Nate and watched the rest of game on TV like us.
so now the heat are rusty and inmotivated... funny. The bulls outplayed them with defense. We all know the heat have more talent and are the better team, but i can c how the bulls can hand them 1 or 2 more looses on this series. They play great defense, have great confidence and they are fierce competitors. Look at nate, buttler or noahs eyes and you will c determination. That alone can get u a long way. Still i think miami will win the series on 6 or 7 games. Coach T is a great coach, but he is no better than pop. He is on doc rivers territory.
I'm just glad he isn't coaching the Heat. Spoelstra is a fine coach, but Thibs on the Heat would be straight terrifying.
This. It was at the time a no brainer right? You take the HOF coach (with A LOT OF CRED) everyday over the "new guy." I don't know if it was Les' fault per say, but after ya that YEAR IN BOSTON. You knew that he was going to be a great coach. It would have been a TOTAL REBUILD project had we done that. Les knew what he had because Tom was running the defense here. I just don't think Les ever knew that that Defense could literally sustain it self over time in this NBA. Les wanted offense. He got Rick, and we got to the second round of the playoffs. We had great seasons under Rick. The time to hire a Tom T would have been like for example, this year. I always said the same thing years ago we should have kept Tom, but it just wasn't what was going on in the organization. Championships were still within reach, and Yao still had legs under him. Tom is a great coach, and still had a little Rockets red in his blood, always.
Oh, and our team D did sustain itself after JVG, and Tom left. That defensive mentality was still there. Someone said this, but it eventually left. What has not left is the toughness that JVG, and Tom brought to this organization. I think we lacked it before they got here. Oh, and when we all saw our D being used in Boston; we may have said oh it's the big three, but Tom literally did the same thing there he did here. JVG, and his crew brought TOUGHNESS, and DETERMINATION that had not been seen here in a while. I always thought since then it stuck. Maybe it's the people that Morey has brought in that also exemplify that feature. Here's a good question though for right now. What would Morey do today if we had the same choice? A future HOF coach, or a assistant that is a huge "risk," but "possible high reward." The risk for hiring a HOF coach is almost nothing, and the reward is also "possible high reward." I just think that as much as even I want to agree with you that Les messed up because I'm with ya; I said it since he left for that short Boston gig he was "THE NEW GUY." I just think that the organization had so much hope, and the future still was SO BRIGHT when we hired Rick the Ruler. It just wouldn't have made too much sense especially since Tom is a clone of JVG.
