The only reason Benghazi is still discussed by the right is the slim hope that the republicans can use it against Hillary in 2016 if she decides to run.
The only reason Benghazi is still NOT discussed by the left is the staunch hope that the republicans will not be able to use it against Hillary in 2016 if she decides to run
This is what they said happened, but not what actually happened. An Islamic terrorist group planned and executed an attack on the consulate, and killed four Americans. Hillary later said "what difference does it make?" in regard to this.
IIRC there were more than 120 participants attacking in a coordinated fashion from two ends with calibrated mortar fire. Yeah, sounds spontaneous....
I don't know if you and Basso are just reflexive in your responses but in my post I was saying that it makes a difference what happened, I don't think it was an unpredictable event, and that we need more answers.
The reason we don't have answers is because the White House keeps lying. For example..... CBS You want answers? Start holding people accountable rj
Deceit inevitably unravels. We are talking about people's lives here. They were left to die without help when help was readily available. This is a real life "Clear and Present Danger." I directly witnessed a case like this, and I will never forget it. An operative was "sacrificed" when the government "disavowed" him. Convenient for them, disastrous for him. I knew him personally.
THIS is what I don't understand about folks who would defend the Obama administration or just prefer to give them a pass. SOMEONE (probably multiple someones) really screwed this up and 4 people are dead because of it. And to make matters worse, a coverup has ensued. Yet folks act like there's nothing to see here merely since the wrong political party is in the White House. If that was your family member that was dead, would you be willing to give this administration a pass? Is this what it has come to? Party over country?
Nixon was impeached for less. No people died either. Now that whistleblowers are finally coming out, it'd caused others to do the same. Even one of the drone operators is speaking about that night and how much of a failure it was. dude seems serious.
His family has publicly supported the Obama Administration thus far and criticized the critics and conspiracy theorists. So apparently, so far, the answer is yes. Interesting how this one guy has become the superstar of the critics, and is now assumed to have all the correct facts while everyone else is not just wrong but also lying and orchestrating a massive coverup. It seems everyone continues to be a in rush to whatever judgment that fits what they want to believe.
Do you believe the administration has been honest from the beginning? You still believe that Obama wasn't deliberately lying when he gave speech after speech for weeks after the attack that blamed a video? Or that Clinton was lying when she told a family member at the memorial service that it was because of a video and they were going to get the guy? I don't put a whole lot into the idea that the administration refused to send a rescue. I think if anything that may have been an issue of communication and confusion as to what the status of the attack was. However, I don't think it's questionable that information was suppressed and misconstrued for awhile after the attack in order to prevent it from having any relevance to the election.
I have no idea. The fog of war means you have lots of misinformation. Look at the Boston bombings. Were the police lying in the press conferences when they said they had found and detonated multiple other devices? This was a controlled environment, in the US, with a solid chain of command and reliable sources. And still, the police themselves got their own account of their own actions completely and totally wrong. There was an incredible about of incorrect information floating around, and much of it came from official sources. Now, switch that to a war zone halfway around the world in a country in chaos with no direct access to the location where everything happened. I would not remotely be surprised if lots of different sources were reporting different things to different agencies at different times. And those agencies were reporting their incorrect information to others, and on and on. It's what happens in that type of environment and it takes time to get everything sorted out. Yes, I do believe they weren't deliberately lying. My best guess is that they still had bad or conflicting information. In part because it would be a monumentally stupid thing to do. And in part because there was zero benefit to doing so. Lying about it would make sense if an election was a few days later. Lying makes no sense when the election is months away and you know that conflicting information has been out there since the 2nd or 3rd day. There's no outcome where you're going to come out ahead there. If you're being political, you call it a terrorist attack as soon as you can and rally the country around the flag rather than let it become a 2 month controversy about your administration's ineptitude in getting facts right and covering things up. I agree with that - and answers on what actually happened are important and should be asked. But many people have skipped over that to assume conspiracy and coverup, none of which makes any logical sense. We deserve a full accounting of what really happened - neither Congress or the Admin appears interested in that, though. If they wanted that, they'd set up a bipartisan commission - as stupid as it sounds, the ones they've had for deficit reduction (Erskin Bowles) and the financial collapse were considered pretty fair and unbiased.

The most overblown political scandal in history, Watergate, cost Nixon the White House. What happened at Benghazi seems to have far exceeded that-- not even close.
