I can understand this especially since I grew up in Texas, but giving the firearm to a kid and having it readily accesible are two different things.

Fine, buy him the guy so when they go hunting etc, but how about it being locked up every other instance in a gun safe and not giving the kid access to it.

This is a horrible story all the way around.

If you want to be more depressed about the r****dedness of our gun culture, feel free to google about a recent story where a 5 yr old shot dead his 2 yr old sister. The gun was a gift from his parents.

Agreed. Everything we had was locked up and I wasn't given the keys until a years later.

It's possible that they put the gun away, but the kid figured out where it was/how to get into the safe. I know that when I was a kid/teenager and my parents would take away my stuff, I put way too much effort into figuring out how to get around it or where they hid it.

Maybe she'd be alive if she didn't give her son a freaking gun.

I agree with the other posters. I just don't understand giving a gun to an 11 year old with anger issues.

If this was the case then shows that they didn't secure it well enough which is unsettling considering the father was an advocate of concealed and carry so someone who should be trained in proper storage of weapons.

I am sure the lesson here is all the parents should buy a gun for their 11 year old for protection.

First off, the kid is obviously psychotic,..rape the mom after shooting her? and with the mom in the nursing industry maybe she should know a little bit.

They obviously gave him the gun hoping he'd just off himself and alleviate the parents' headache.

What is this? I'm disappointed.... I expected more about Call of Duty from the thread title but they barely mentioned it in the article.

True, there's no denying that's a huge failure. I just think that that's relatively more justifiable/sensible than giving an 11 year old a freaking gun. Hell, I'd probably trust an 8 year old with a gun more than an 11 year old as the 8 year old doesn't really have hormones and junk.
