Whoah, you seriously think there is no difference between Asik's and Howard's offensive game? Outside of name recognition? I have to fervently disagree only because Dwight does...practically everything offensively better than Asik lol. I'm all for homerism, but let us be realistic here.
Everything was in the context of salary, hence why I stated value. I don't think Dwight's offensive game is 12 million better than Asik's. All things equal, of course there is a huge gap.
Lol i saw this. It was during the halftime interview of the Memphis-OKC game. He didn't say cheater's, he said cheetahs. Something along the lines in the change of pace this series is going to be form the Rockets series, and how overnight they're going from playing a team full of cheetahs (Rocket's fast pace), to bears (Grizzlie's physical style).
Salary cap is an asset we have to use to abuse, as it effectively goes away for us in another 2 seasons. I think you're forgetting that getting Dwight for $20M does not somehow destroy our value -- Asik can still be moved. Even if Dwight costs $12M more, you can always move Asik for something of equal or better value. For example, sign Dwight and then move Asik for Millsap (TRob already gone in this scenario). If there were a $20M PF available this yr or next yr (realistically) that would make our team as good as a Dwight + Millsap sort of move, then I would tell us to keep Asik and spend the money on that imaginary PF instead. Unfortunately, there is not a $20M PF available that has the skills we could want. It is about our options and what assets we have.
Good series for us. HOWEVER, we're nowhere near being where OKC is w/ a healthy Westbrook. What we need is an athletic PF that'll stretch the court offensively and quick enough to block shots coming from weak side. A very high energy guy. Also, we NEED another starting PG that can run the offense but aggressive enough to get their own shot when needed. CP3 is perfect but thats highly unlikely. If we end up w/ Howard I think its best we go after that stretch 4 like Ryan Anderson
Ryan Anderson is nice, but if we got Howard, I would rather get Millsap. He's developed a 3 pt shot this season, and is continuing to add to it. He'll be similar to 2Pat in his corner 3's, so he can stretch out the defense when necessary. Unlike Anderson, Millsap is a very good yet underrated defender. Neither's great at weak side shot blocking, but Millsap is better at the little things, like steals, blocks and assists. He's also a very efficient scorer, with a GREAT eFG% within 6 ft/at the rim.
Pretty sure he said Cheetahs.. as in the fast animal. Comparing them to a slower animal (Bears) that the Grizzles resemble.
