if he can keep the unnecessary dribbling to a minimum and spot up and cut then we're good

he hasn't been reliable with the 3s for a while now. besides the foot problem he was also carrying a shoulder injury i think.

If a player has to suffer a season-ending surgery, getting one in a win while dunking on Durant is a pretty good way to go, I guess.

I guess. Does Cisco get all the minutes or do we see Anderson and/or TJ?

Too bad... Very tough loss.... How unfortunate for him.....The Rockets will really miss Delfino's leadership and clutch shooting & he is very underrated as a playmaker. Worst of all, the defense may suffer greatly. Now Lin needs to step up because I don't think Anderson is the type of player who can compensate for missing Delfino. The Rockets need some more firepower on offense to replace Delfino, so I think the pressure is really on Lin to come through!!!

who'd have thought at the beginning of the year we'd be saying any part of: "i'm not sure we can beat the thunder now that delfino's out"... ?

Gotta agree, it sounds like a joke saying it, but this really hurts us.

It became obsolete when the Rockets were eliminated not less than 48 hours later.

Then again Yao was a 7ft6 300 pound center who had a myriad of stress related foot issues.. hopefully delfino comes back strong

Actually, I think it makes it far more likely Delfino returns. We were never going to pick up his option, due to cap space reasons. Any hopes of Carlos returning were always that he'd come back for a near-minimum deal later in free agency. With this injury (couldn't pass a physical immediately) coupled with his age and the have/have not style of the current CBA... I think it's very likely that we end up re-signing him to a minimum deal. And I'll be thrilled to have him back.

Yes. But according to the quote, the same injury apparently not only ended Yao's career, but the career of other players, too.

    That's a fair point.

I would still think it's more likely Delfino finds another team willing to offer him more money and (guaranteed) years than the Rockets would be willing to, but you very well may be right that this actually might work in the Rockets' favor.
We'll see. I think we'd all love to have Delfino back for the minimum.

I thought that for much of the year. But as much as we love Carlos, he'll be 31 years old and coming off a year in which he shot 40% from the field and 37% from 3. Not horrible, but nothing that stands out. Couple that with his age and injury situation, and my guess is that he slips through the cracks. Especially given that the current CBA seems to be dissuading teams from overpaying role players like they used to.

As far as the injury goes, the good news is that we'll have a strong indication by July free agency. With the Yao injury (occurred in early May), we knew it was a career-altering situation when he went in for his six-week checkup at the end of June and found out the bone wasn't healing like it should. Hopefully the opposite happens in this case and both sides can feel secure.

How do you go from rotation player and even posterizing the other team's best player...to your career possibly being over?

Hard to see how the market shakes out and what Delfino's priorities are at this point in his career. But I think there is a chance for him to return-- HOU will have the "room exception" worth about $2.7M to offer a Delfino (or Garcia) type if the marker warrants such a price, too.

The chances gets better if HOU finds its star FA early in the summer and can go about building a winning roster rather than having to spend spots asking bets on young guys and lotto busts.

Well, according to Delfino, he's known for two weeks that his foot was broken and played through it. But I guess the opportunity to dunk on Durant was too tempting to pass up!

    He's a warrior.

There's a chance we may sign up after he's healed up. Teams are allowed to go over the cap when re-signing their own free agents. Acc to Feigen,

Carlos Delfino’s injury will make it tough to pick up his option by the June 30 deadline. He revealed it to be similar to the injury that ended Yao Ming’s and others’ careers. He could come back, but under the free agency circumstances it will be tough to make that commitment in June. They could re-sign players they let become free agents using cap exceptions.
