Teams that definitely need a center:

    Bobcats
    Mavericks
    Pelicans
    Blazers

Teams that may need a center:

    76ers
    Cavaliers
    Hawks
    Celtics

The one that makes the most sense to me is Portland.

LaMarcus Aldridge for Asik, Beverley, TJones, TRob, Rockets 2014 1st (Salaries match almost exactly).

    Sign Llull and Aldemir.

    Lin / Llull
    Harden / Llull
    Parsons /
    Aldridge / DMo / Aldemir
    Howard / Smith

One thing to consider is the short duration of Asik's contract. Yes he's a bargain, but only for two more years. Then he will most likely get a max offer.

If you think we can contend for a title during these next two seasons, you keep him. If not, perhaps trade him for a more long term solution while his stock is high.

Or perhaps Omer IS our long term solution at C, not Dwight.

Meh....I don't see Asik as a max offer type guy. Is he underpaid? Yes. Does he deserve $15-20 million? No.

    Just for reference:

    Mark Gasol: ~$14 million
    Kendrick Perkins: ~$8 million

I think Asik falls somewhere between these two. Lets call it $10-11 million/year.

Well, there's a reason Dwight was on the floor for 5 more minutes. It's not like we had a back up center stealing Asik's minutes or something. Conditioning and occasional foul trouble is what kept his minutes down, and I think 7 points in 5 minutes is a lot to expect from Asik.

I hate talking about trading Asik. The main reason why is he will only get better and become more valuable. He could become a 15 12 guy with 2 blocks and that's worth a lot in this league. If we were Lebron I would dump him in a heartbeat but Howard is no Lebron. In 3 years Asik will have bulked up developed a mid range shot and improved his free throw shooting and Howard may be recovering from his second back surgery. Of course I don't know that. But my first wife was a chiropractor and I saw countless patients coming in to her after back surgery never worked even multiple times and they finally were desperate for help.

Plus after watching him shove Perkins back like he was a nothing made me respect him. He is a Rocket Warrior in my book.

I would keep Asik as backup Center.

Him and Howard could be much more aggressive defensively knowing we have a backup lock down center in case of foul trouble.

Asik, in Chicago behind Noah, was much more aggressive and his shot blocking was better.

Asik can still be a backup C if the Rockets get Howard. Look at how much the Bulls are paying Taj Gibson to be their backup 4/5.

Nobody has mentioned it, but i think we could get paul gasol over here and play him at the 4. His value has obviously dropped over the last season or two, but he's still a good player that we wouldn't have to sigh a max deal on. I think he would fit well with houston.

Sure but if you look at his pf performance it seems it equates to smthg like 12.5-13 points if he had the same amount of mins so the difference is 4 points. Now if we look at the amount of shots the 2 take: D12 is taking 10.7 fg/g and 9.5 ft/g Asik on the other hand has 7.5 fg/g and 3.6 ft/g (with Asik having a slightly worse fg and a slightly better ft %)

Whats does that mean? It means he uses WAY less possesions away from the team to produce smthg like 4 points less while performing similar on def (imo)
More points are not always make someone vastly superior..is he better than Asik? For sure he is! Questions is by how much and for how long given Asik's learning curve + Howards piling injury history...

keep in mind that asik's ****ty hands equate to a cpl missed fg attempts that count as turnovers to harden/lin, in situations where asik gets stripped or blocked, howard almost always gets fouled, in situations where asik gets fouled, so does howard.

I love Omer, I really do, but if you take into account that Dwight is better at everything, and that there's no way on earth that Omer will sign for less than $12m next time round, and maybe more (and this is only two years away), it's Dwight all day every day.

Trade him for reverse lottery protection like the Lowry trade. Do the same with Lin (or just a pick if he's not as valuable. That frees up another $17M in salary. Sign third superstar. If that's Chris Paul then hope one of our young power forwards develops. If it's Smith, keep Beverley as cheap starter, pick up AB's option.

No matter who it is, our big three will never be quite as good as Miami's big 3, but our secret weapon is Morey's ability to continually find quality players in d-league, overseas, 2nd round, etc and lock them up in good deals. Thus, our supporting cast has a chance to be better, with the biggest difference makers being the two non-superstar starters and first two guys off the bench.

Yea, honestly, its hard for me to give up Asik for how well he played as his first year as a starter...Averaging a Double double and basically getting the same stats as DHoward in respect to rebounding and clogging the lane. I could see asik working on some post moves and increasing his endurance. He already improved his hands from the begenning of the season. I'd really like to keep him, but obviously its hard to say no to DH if we can land him. But I say keep him IMO.

Asik has earned the right to be a starter in the NBA and with all his intangibles has more value than Howard.

Furthermore I don't believe signing a player and moving him too the bench after he played his heart out and had a huge breakout season is great for trying to attract talent in free agency.

Even if you think Howard is a better fit for a team wanting to win a championship than Asik..you can't tell me Paul over Lin or J Smith over G Smith would not be a bigger upgrade. I don't get the logic.

Howard would come here enjoy his big contract and pack it in. I guarantee it. He will never reach his full potential.
