Earlier this week, Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon acknowledged that Israel had launched an airstrike in January against a target inside Syria.

They did this in Iraq in the early '80s. And they fought three conflicts that didn't escalate beyond the region, Nixon was the last President to know better than to intervene.

 

Only if they're friendlier to our money.

 

Because we still feel guilty about not helping the Jews (and we should have helped; our inaction was deplorable) during World War II (but there's only so much "if you don't back us you're anti-Semitic" that can go around; it's 2013, right?).

I can understand Israel as a result of the pendulum swinging hard in the opposite direction. Centuries of harassment and maltreatment of Jews culminated in the Holocaust, and I can understand the "never again!" mentality of Israel. Give someone the excuse, they'll jump all over you.

And yet Israel has gone from lamb to belligerent to bellicose to near-warmonger because they know even if they bite off more than they can chew, the U.S. will never, ever, abandon them.
