You worry about that when it becomes a (good) problem. With the way many of the prospects are playing at the upper levels (something we haven't been able to say since Hunter Pence), I get the feeling we're going to start seeing turnover well before September. I realize there's no hurry in starting arbitration clocks, but unless they want to stare at a 4th consecutive 100-loss season, I think there is a benefit to bringing the kids up in July or August to get them real time. It's time to turn the corner towards improvement in the major league club. If Villar, Woj, Cosart, Singleton can get their feet wet, I think we'll see a real improvement next season.
The problem isn't his talent defensively. He can make amazing plays with unreal range and has a cannon attached to his right shoulder. The problem is he is inconsistent and prone to mistakes on routine plays. I read in Baseball America (I believe when he was in A ball) a scout said Villar made the 5 most impressive plays he saw all year and the 5 worst plays he saw all year.
Unlikely that Dominguez and Villar both end up being special (I expect Villar to really only end up as a Julio Lugo like player and Dominguez as Pedro Feliz). You can always trade one of them or move somebody to the OF (I would never move Dominguez off 3B). Same thing can be said in regards to Paredes/Fontana/DDJ.
Cosart and Villar are on the 40-man. I have to think that helps them get to Houston sooner than later, but Marwin & Cedeno have played well this season, which is holding back Villar (and Elmore).
Does anybody know if our AAA team has a hitters park? I find it odd that our hitters really seem to flourish down there. Or maybe they're just putting it all together. Villar: .261 AA .314 AAA Grossman .267 AA and never hit above .300 in the minors. .324 AAA
The PCL is a hitters league, although Villar and Grossman are two poor examples since they haven't really had enough ABs in AAA to draw any real conclusions from their stats.
True, but the odds that Ankiel, Pena, Bedard, etc. finish the season on this team are getting slimmer by the day. I'm wondering if Ankiel's days are numbered and tied to when Maxwell returns from the DL...or even as soon as JD Martinez is ready.
PCL Park Factors This is the data that confirms the league overall is skewed towards hitters but OKC's park is rather neutral. Here is a great article at what level of plate appearances statistics begin to stabilize. Basically you can never predict when batting averages will stabilize based on any number of PA's. BA's are too prone to hot/cold swings.
I wonder about Elmore. True he's put up good numbers in the minors but we got him for a waiver claim, so I can't imagine they're too worried about his development.

George Springer has just hit his 9th home run of the season into the wind to put Corpus up 1-0 on Midland in the 1st.
loving the production of the minor leaguers. Is it too much to hope that Cosart, Springer, Villar, Singleton and maybe one other makes it up to the bigs this year?
He followed that up with a 2-run double in the 2nd. Corpus opening up a can on Midland... 6-1 in the 3rd.
Nolan Fontana is in beast mode tonight as well. 4-4, including a solo home run and a steal. His OBP was just above .500 coming into the game, and so that's even climbing. Telvin Nash also has a multi-hit game. This is his 10th game, and he's got a hit in 9 of them, including 4 multi-hit games. He's also got his strikeout percentage down around 25% which isn't great, but huge improvement from the 40-50% he posted last year. On the downside, DeShields is struggling, and in a tailspin. He's got 5 steals and has been caught 6 times in 19 games. He played in Lancaster for 24 games last year, and racked up 18 steals with only 5 caught steals. Not sure what's going on there.
Wow can we just call up Fontana? I remember DDJ started the season strong, something has to be up with him.
Fontana needs to be in CC, Mier has been awful and no longer really deserves everyday play at SS. Fontana is putting up otherworldy numbers. He needs to play at higher levels because it seems he can walk at will down there, even if he's not hitting. I know for arbitration reasons, the Astros seem to be in no hurry to promote Springer and Cosart. But i think it may be worth it to try and generate some buzz heading into 2014. Not now, but sometime this year. The crowd situation has gotten pathetic, what fans that were there had to fight off a freaking lets go Tigers chant.
