<br> Don't be ignorant. Jackson scored all his points in a 2 min stretch in the 4th quarter during which Houston's complete focus was making sure Durant didn't do anything. I'd hardly call that "getting killed" Jesus, Beverley's play has been nothing short of spectacular. He's getting the recognition he deserves from true fans and national media. It's just a certain unmentionable group that doesn't wanna admit it.
Just kidding. After reading some of the posts (from 2012/2013'ers) in this thread after Beverley's amazing performances in this series, I think the playoffs are more enjoyable while not checking Clutchfans.
while other true rockets fans are happy he's is playing well because he contributed to the rox winning twice
So far Beverley is playing with pose and aggressiveness. His ball handling is quite good especially how he keeps the dribble alive and backs up when prodding the clogged paint. More importantly, he attacks with no hesitation.
I'm a LOF, but even I admit that Bev is playing great right now. I actually think he's underrated offensively, and overrated defensively (though not in his rebounding ability, which he displays more of on offensive rebounds...he's a great ball tracker). But ultimately, he's a good undersized SG, who plays good defense, a great rebounder, takes care of the ball well, and has shown to be a reliable 3 point shooter. However, his vision and passing skills are not NBA PG quality. I also happen to think that he's a better fit w/ Harden cause of his 3 point shooting ability. When playing with Harden in the backcourt, 3 point shooting ability and man-on-man defense trumps all other skills, the 2 things that Bev has shown so far to excel in. The thing is with Beverly, if he ever loses his shooting touch, he will be absolutely useless on offense. However, he is young, and may progress to a point where he becomes stronger in other forms of scoring...but it is unlikely he will ever become a better passer/playmaker, which again, is not important with Harden on the floor.
watch the game again. it was jackson - ibaka pick and roll that "killed" us. i expect them to run it a lot more in the game 6. why do people think bev is a better 3 point shooter than lin?
Then how come Lin averaged over 6 assists a game? Lin drives the lane, draws the defense and makes great passes to the open man. They're not always pretty but they're effective. Doesn't it bother you guys in the least that Beverley has started the last 3 games, played a ton of minutes and averaged 2.3 assts a game? That's not what I want from any starting PG.
Why would people bring up assists when discussing a point guard? Seriously? If he averages 2.3 assists for the entire season, he would easily rank as the worst starting PG in assists. That would be equivalent of having a starting Center who averaged 3.5 rebounds and .5 blocks a game... or Hasheem Tabeet...
He's not really a PG in this system cause Harden and Parsons are taking on more of the playmaking responsibility. He actually plays like a big man and his value has been his rebounding. I believe OKC were killing us in the first half of game three cause they were getting all the rebounds, which contributed to the 20 point hole we were in. Coaching staff obviously emphasized this point and made great adjustments for games 4 and 5.
Beverley's best traits are what we need most on this team: defense(need it badly, plus good defense spurs more transition buckets which is our biggest strength), rebounding(going small all the time), limited turnovers(we lead the league I think), energy & body movement to keep us from going stale, three point shooting. Beverley's worst trait isn't that important to have on this team: playmaking: we have Harden as a playmaker and a host of other players capable of making the right passes, but even more than that we run a system of ball movement that doesn't require him to be CP3 out there. It just makes sense, doesn't it?
I will be the first to say that his rebounding has been a godsend and been huge for us. But part of the reason he is in such good position to get rebounds is because he isn't defending his man. He likes to hang around the top corner of the paint and that puts him in better position for rebounds than a traditional point guard. That's a strategy that works fine as long as OKC isn't hitting their 3's and I pray that the continue to clank away from long distance. But K-Mart doesn't usually shoot 1-10 and had he hit a few more of his shots last night, it might have been a different ending. Also, I can't see using your PG as a center working for the majority of the season (unless you have someone like Magic Johnson on your squad).
Bingo.... he's like a glue guy for the system we run. He needs to watch the fouling though.. sometimes he gets way too overaggressive in the D.
