The Bulls gave this dude 4 years, 38 million. He was good his first year or so, but he is definitely NOT worth his contract at all.

A similar contract is Jeff Green's 4 year, 36 million. Green is a lot more effective than Gibson.

Gibson also has very little upside in my opinion. He's a pretty decent/good defender, but is a bad offensive player.

They could have kept Asik and let this guy go, that would have been the wise decision. I'm glad they didn't though since we got Asik

So, your thoughts on Taj Gibson and his contract extension- whether the Bulls made the right decision?

Kept Asik for what? To back up Noah? They need Taj alot more than Asik as a backup for Noah considering neither Noah or Asik can play the 4.

they still could have signed someone else instead of giving this guy a 4 yr/36 million dollar contract.

He's nothing more than an above average role player. Solid rebounder, athlete, and great shot blocker, but definitely NOT a guy you want making more than 5 million a year.

I would love have Gibson at his salary. His contract is very fair. Elite level beast defender who is competent enough offensively.

    Asik>Noah

That was Chicago's mistake. Should have traded Noah for a stud 2 guard.

What games have you been watching? Noah is 10 times the player Asik is. I'd take Noah over Asik without hesitation.

guys...Taj Gibson is a fantastic defender.

I liked the idea of trading Noah for a shooting guard, however Noah is definitely better than Asik at this point.

I don't get the Noah love. Sure most people will disagree with me but I don't really understand how people can value Noah as a 6 Million dollar better investment.

The defensive output between the two is comparable and that in my eyes should have been enough to justify trading Noah.

Even assuming Chicago gets raped at the trade table and only comes away with a player like Aaron Afflalo:

    Rose (robinson)
    Afflalo
    Deng/butler
    Boozer
    Asik

From the otherworldly defensive ability, Chicago can easily have a superior team to what they have now. Also Chicago keeps a degree a cap flexibility with the ability to amnesty boozer and/or replace Deng with Butler.

    U are right
but NOAH trading value is much more than Asik.
Chi can get an ALL Star in return for Noah...but they can only trade a late first rounder for Asik.

Chi should trade Noah for someone like Blake Griffin/ Chris Paul/ or Harden

lol... You don't get CP3 or Blake Griffin or James Harden back for Noah. That's definitely not equal value.

If the Bulls seriously thought that and decided to dump Noah on us, I would've loved nothing more. However, Noah is leagues ahead of Asik at this point without any question. As a matter of fact, If we had Noah and the Thunder had to hack us, they would've probably targeted Parsons because of Noah's all around skill level

In fact even ignoring the trade value and economic aspect I would argue that Noah while a superior player, is a less effective CENTER than Asik (The emphasis on defence, rebounds and Screens)

It is often said that elite perimeter defenders make much less of an impact than stud interior defenders. That said, having elite perimeter defenders will still directly translate into positive perceptions for the interior defenders (case in point Denver's top 10/11 defensive efficiency: http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/teamstats/_/sort/defensiveEff despite marginal defensive big men thanks to igouldala, brewer). Thus it cannot be understated the impact that Deng, Butler and coach Thibs have on Noah's defensive worth.

On the other hand what is Asik left to deal with? Multiple, multiple defensive errors from harden and broken defensive possessions Asik is forced to mop up thanks to Parsons and Lin's chronic defensive gambling.

The Bulls are a terribly run franchise, especially when it comes to giving out contracts. They overpay EVERYONE.
