We didn't get Brooks till late in the season and Beverley till a month into the season so maybe it was a necessary sacrifice and maybe a worthwhile risk either way. Moving his contract will be hard, but if Morey can pull it off, it will allow us to sign Korver and Tony Allen who are both like 30 and would add up to 8-10 million together, or we could sign Mayo or J.R. Smith as our 6th man. That **** would be sick. Then sign Dwight on top of it. If Morey can pull something like that I won't ever doubt him.
Morey has done a hell of a job constructing this team. From gaining assets, to creating cap room. He's been pretty good with those 2 things the only thing he needed was a star and that took a few years to get, and once we got that star everything is coming together. You have to be extremely lucky to gain a star, and the Rockets were lucky Harden didn't get traded to the Wizards, or the Warriors.
Lin only made 5 million this season. If the team trades him this summer that's all the Rockets would have paid for a guy who started all 82 regular season games and played a key role in getting the Rockets to the playoffs. Yes Lin is cheap for this season and next year too if Morey keeps him. Year 3 he is not cheap unless he becomes a superstar.
Lin's deal brings back memories of Ariza's deal. Not the greatest signing by Morey, but one he was able to get out of after one year. I doubt if Morey would have any problem at all moving Lin this summer if he felt it necessary. Morey has a knack for finding top 15 level point guards out of no where. First Brooks, then Lowry, then Dragic, and now Beverly.
I think not yet. Maybe I'm more greedy and ambitious. He will be the GOAT if the Rockets win the championship this year
Knee-jerk. Bev has been on a very good run in the play-offs, but to say that he is top 15? Oh please.
Having the balls to let Dragic go I thought was a serious underrated move. I thought it was certain that we'd have kept Dragic but Morey stunned us and let him go. I think Lin was signed for marketing purposes and I felt Morey had no choice to do but that.
Okay so out of all mentioned Lin might not be cheap, but come on? Morey was 90% on target. If Lin turned out to live up to his contract Morey isn't human
Yep. I remember a thread from a supposed 'Rocket insider' that said the rockets expectations were blown away with how much money Lin was making them. I also recall the league revenue sharing works something like this... a % of revenues is decided upon to go into a funds pool and then that pool is distributed evenly between the clubs. So for example: If Lin makes the rockets an extra $200million (just a wild guess) in revenues and the percentage was set at 50%. $100million would go into the revenue pool to be distributed evenly to all the clubs. Lin would still make the team an extra $100million every year. Plus the team would get some fund back from the revenue distribution. So from that perspective you could say his contract is cheap. Hell you could go into the luxury tax and it would help pay for it. It's not like the Lakers $3billion media contracts but certainly put an extra dimension into discussions about trading Lin and how much he's worth. *I have no idea on Lin sales. 1 million in China / Asia I guess. What's the population of Taiwan? x $20 USD. Does anyone know?
In 82 games Lin Avg 13.4 ppg in 32.2 mpg, .441 FG%, 6.1 APG, 3 RPG, 1.6 SPG In 5 games Bev Avg 12.6 ppg in 33.4 mpg, .444 FG%, 2.9 APG, 6 RPG, 1.2 SPG but Bev is amazing while Lin was signed for "marketing" reasons and is a scrub lmao. Without Lin this team probably doesn't make the playoffs. Bev first game with the Rocket was in Jan 15. Brooks just joined the Rockets.
LMAO. Why are you comparing Lin vs Beverley when I am just mentioning a tidbit about the release of Dragic? LMAOOOOOOO Someones a little volatile.
Miami is a helluva place to live. Don't forget LBJ's bff was already there. Really helped that Miami had a superstar in Wade already playing for the Heat. Of course Dinosaur ahem Bosh has no pride and would rather be third wheel than top dog joined up with them. On top of that they lured in Battier and Allen, both whom are feasting off open three pointers all game. Did I forget that Miami is a helluva place to live in and they already had a superstar there? Morey was handed trash and a team full of bad contracts. Yao and T-Mac were broken down beyond all home. Ariza never panned out because apparently he forgot to learn how to dribble in basketball camp. AB had an unfortunate injury that he couldn't recover from before throwing a hissy fit and getting traded out of town. We are talking about our team where arguably our best player was Martin or Scola. Scola while a warrior, was not a superstar or even star, just a good power forward. Martin is the third option on a healthy Thunder's team. He turned all of that junk into the following: - We are in the playoffs after a complete roster overhaul - Superstar max player in Harden - Parsons is an incredible 2nd round pick and his contract is just filthy - Double-double defensive anchor in Asik - Enough cap room to almost outright sign a max player - Decent point guard in Lin who more importantly, keeps his boss financially ecstatic - Great backup PG in Beverly on an even better contract - While overpriced, we got a solid defensive contributor and good 3pt bomber in Garcia - AB is starting to look like a good investment against an injury shaken backcourt - Jones, DMo, and Robinson have shown flashes a brilliance if they could ever mature. If they don't pan out, I am sure Morey can shed them quickly - Delfino is a great contributor when he isn't trying to play better than he actually is - Oh did I mention we were in the playoffs?
Forget about how much money he makes the NBA and Les. He was paid 5 million which is nothing special in the NBA. It is avg money and he started all 82 games for a playoff team and put up good numbers. Lin can never win. Bev putting up Lin production for 5 games and he is "amazing" while Lin does it for 82 games and he is a marketing gimmick lmao
