Its not just Parsons who needs to be aggressive and assert himself. The Rockets offense requires driving to draw in the D so the outside shooters get a clean look, and that doesnt work when Harden, Lin AND Parsons have been as hesitant to drive as they have been. Far too often do they receive the ball and spend precious seconds trying to fake out the defender instead of immediately driving or shooting. This allows the defense to get set and ready.
Parson's game is actually similar to Hedo Türkoğlu's. They're both bigger small-forwards (6'9, 6'10). They both can't play the 4 position. They both have well-rounded offensive games. They both love passing the basketball and dribbling up the floor during a break - despite the fact that sometimes they over dribble. They both handle well for large SFs. Parsons is more athletic than Hedo. Hedo's a smoother overall shooter.
I think Parsons got overlooked because he is the entire package, doesn't just do one thing well that you can see in a highlight reel or a drill. He also seems to naturally have the personality of a team player, someone who wants to play within the system and is careful not to overassert himself. That's why even though he was SEC player of the year people felt like he didn't live up to his talent. He never stood out from the team as much as a star normally does. Now he's understanding more how to be assertive and the mindset it takes to be a star. Stars aren't normal people, they have to have an incredibly high level of confidence/selfishness. Kudos to Parsons for figuring that out, and by all accounts remaining a good teammate.
Watch old footage of Larry Bird in his prime, and them watch Parsons's game today. You will see a lot of similarities in their games. (minus the rebounding) Bird was and underrsted rebounder.

Sorry to disrupt the thread, but just an fyi, it is called projection. Sublimation is the turning of base instincts into socially accepted actions.
So, those are the only two guys in the league with a chip on their shoulder? Get that grizzly ish outta here!
