Saw a couple of their gamed last year, Griffin is Gronk huge but needs to work on his hands in the open field, was mainly a redzone target which is nice and he's a solid blocker. If he learns to catch and tale contact he can be a beast
Here's who CBSSports.com compares him to.... COMPARES TO: Garrett Graham, TE, Houston Texans - Although overshadowed by Owen Daniels in Houston's offense, Graham is a reliable receiving threat who also gives good effort as a blocker. Griffin is probably more of a No. 2 TE like Graham, but can also step up and start if needed. The rest.... STRENGTHS: Griffin passes the eye test with good size for the position. He has quick hands and length to extend and snatch the ball out of the air, using very good focus to adjust to off-target throws. Griffin does a nice job locating and going up to get it to bring it down, securing over-the-middle catches and showing natural ball skills. He has good initial quickness and route agility, doing a nice job along the sideline to get his feet inbounds. Griffin is an aggressive blocker in the trenches, blocking more physical and mean than several of his offensive line teammates at Connecticut. He gives up his body for the catch or block and plays with very good toughness, but also showing patience and discipline. Griffin has a versatile skill-set, lining up inline, in the slot and in the backfield. He played on one of the worst-ranked offenses in FBS the past two seasons, but still managed to be productive as the only player with more than 1 receiving score in 2012. WEAKNESSES: Griffin has a leaner-than-ideal frame and has room to add some more bulk. He is aggressive and tough, but lacks overpowering strength to always sustain blocks long enough. Griffin is more of a possession target and doesn't consistently do enough after the catch. He is still developing as a route runner and plays a little tight at times. Griffin has never been overly productive and didn't lead the team in catches in any of his four seasons in college.
I was on board until these last three picks, they all seem like reaches and guys that could have been had as UDFA... Bray and Da'rick would be on the team if I were picking.... but I don't, in reality, watch College Football.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty damned happy with this draft. 1 27 DeAndre. Hopkins WR 2 27 D.J. Swearinger S 3 27 Brennan. Williams T 3 33 Sam. Montgomery LB 4 27 Trevardo. Williams LB 6 8 David. Quessenberry T 6 27 Alan. Bonner WR 6 30 Chris. Jones DT 6 33 Ryan. Griffin TE We hit every hole we needed to fill. We drafted Andre and Ed Reed's successors. We got Derek Newton some legitimate day 1 competition. We got Barwin replacement and Smith's successor. We got depth at WR, TE, and DT. Not a damn thing to complain about. Well done on paper. Now we wait for the cake to bake.
IDK, I look at what we did and then I look what Baltimore and 9ers did and it makes me wonder how good our draft really was. I think 9ers did a fantastic job, FANTASTIC i say!
Relax Marley, My patronage is for this team all the way, but as a fan of the game i gotta give props when due.
It's easy to be pleased with the Niners when they had enough picks to get anywhere they wanted in the draft. And I mean anywhere. Grading our draft is pointless at this point anyway.
I'm kind of out of the loop but on the surface the texans picks make sense. I was a bit surprised to see 2 o-line men but I understand. Glad to see some athletic LBs added and I expected at least 2. Safety was also expected but a little surprised by it on the second round, however I think they felt the pressure of having to have a 3rd guy with some big potential...not only for this year but a big time performer in the future WR, that was a given no surprise there. The Jacksonville state guy seems like a Keyshawn clone based on the twitter blurb I read but I will have to do more digging later TE , needed. Frost off, it's hard to say if they did good. Second, the niners had minimal holes to feel so basically all their picks were. Just icing on the cake. Like every year, judging a draft the night of is silly
Draft isn't over yet but I'm interested in the following UDFAs: Kevin Reddick - ILB - UNC Matt Scott - QB - Arizona Da'rick Rogers - WR - Tennessee Miguel Maysonet - RB - Stony Brook
I'm surprised you like Maysonet. I go to Stony Brook and have seen him play for the last few years. Very good back. He's durable and very elusive.
Darick Rogers will be a Big Time steal as a UDFA... Next Arian Foster ??? Matt Scott is much better porspect than Dysert who got just drafted... The Rutgers MLB seems real solid... After Ogletree and Minter the rest of the MLB's had huge questions...
Reddick the MLB from North Carolina looks good on game videos... I hope he doesn't get drafted... A couple of few MLB's who Texans can sign as UDFA's Kevin Reddick Philip Steward
Rick Smith on Hopkins: We liked so many things about the young man. A productive receiver. Kubiak on Hopkins: It seemed the bigger the game got, the better he played. Kubiak: Brooks Reed is our SAM linebacker and expect him to be a great player there. He gives us options but we like him staying at SAM and we'll start there. Smith on Swearinger: First thing you notice on film is how physical he is. Very passionate about the game. Kubiak: Didn't have to watch the film to see what type of player he is. He'll be great on special teams. Kubiak: Not making decisions on moving a player based on the draft. Will have to see what happens. Nothing going on right now. Smith: Element of mental toughness with the first 3 picks. Sam Montgomery plays like his hair is on fire. Smith: I love the class & pass rush ability we added. Smith: Quessenberry was rated highly on their board. Like his makeup and fans/media will like him as a man too. Kubiak on TE Griffin: Has the frame to be a good in-line blocking TE. Picking him was a product of his pre-draft visit. Smith on NT Jones: Like his makeup and the way he approaches the game. Relentless & productive. Kubiak: Loved watching Bonner in Indy. Big upside, great opportunity for him. Has some special stuff to him. Smith: Jones is relentless and will be tough to keep off the field. Kubiak: Bonner has big upside. He can play inside and the slot. Smith on Hopkins: We love the guy. He won't help us quickly but think he'll evolve into quite a player. Smith on trading up/down in the first round: We never had conversations with regard to that. Smith on QB: Never had conversations about a QB. We were open to it but didn't work out that way. Smith on ILB depth: We'll start working on that process with college FAs, may look at vet FAs as well. Kubiak on OT Williams: Felt very fortunate. He'll fit in quickly with what we do & is going to get an opportunity. Smith on OT depth: Always try to bolster the depth through the draft but like the young players at this point. Smith on expectations: We expect an impact player in the 1st, 2nd rounders should start and/or contribute early. 3rd rounders should also be able to be starters/contributors eventually.
