Yep..that whole strip center has sat vacant for a long time now. I thought they reason they left there was because of the freeway expansion. But the building is still standing with nothing in there at all. So they moved right across the freeway. I walk there for lunch some days. http://blog.chron.com/cookstour/2009/03/burger-friday-sams-deli-diner/
Can't believe people have the balls to suggest Fuddrucker's in a best burger thread. Looking forward to your contribution of Olive Garden in next week's Best Italian thread.
Stomp's took the Tookies cooks and recipes. Tookies used to be my favorite, but they aren't quite the same since they re-opened. Plus, Stomp's has better prices. That burger I mentioned earlier has a pound of beef and amazing toppings for only $5.99! If I didn't live 90 minutes away I'd get it every day.
Yeah Fuddruckers is good and I really like it, but to me a mom n pop place gives that different "familiar" environment. Plus Sam's made good burgers. I think Fuddruckers falls under the Burger King, Whataburger category... which would go: Fuddruckers > Whataburger >>>>>>> Wendys >>> Burger King I think the closed in the early 2000s because by the time I hit college in 2003, they were already long closed.
They have 1 cook from the old tookies. They are cheaper than tookies but I still think tookies is better. What I do like about stomps is its byob on everything but beer.
I went to Tookie's just a few weeks ago for the first time since Ike. Honestly I was disappointed. I used to love the bean burger (burger topped with refried beans, salsa, and crushed fritos). It's either not as good as it used to be, or I've just learned to appreciate good burgers since then. Based on my last visit I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
Yeah my bad, I realized that. How long were they closed for? I was saddened when I drove all the way from UH years ago for lunch and the place was closed. I ended up going to McDonald's instead for some Big Mac to complete the most sad lunch experiences of last decade. I wish I was still in Houston so I can go eat there for nostalgic purposes.
I love the 99 with avocado. Honestly my favorite burger is from taconmadre or even south shore grille does a hell of a burger.
It wasn't long...just long enough to move to the other side of the freeway. They were probably open when you drove out there...but just not at the old location you remember. They recently expanded the space they're in because they're packed at lunch time.
I used to say it was Christian's Tailgate... ...but I like Miller's much better. Christian's is now in second place on my 'best burger' list.
J Dubs here in Katy is pretty good. SAMs deli and diner isn't that great. At least the one on pin oak isn't.
I went to Tookies last weekend for the first time since Ike. I thought that the burger was very good and the onion rings were just as I remembered. I give it a 7.5 out of 10. Christian's gets a 9 out of 10.
Naw man Fuddrucker is legit. Stopped by plenty of mom and pop hole in the walls only to get that thin pre frozen non seasoned patty in the white box. Olive garden=Red lobster/McDonald's =Burgerking. Fudd's is def several notches above that. Also better than Pappas brother's hamburger. Well you know what they say about opinions though lol.
