Well honestly, who could defend the bigs in the 90's that well? I'm sure he would could better than most. The man is an ox and can push nearly all big men away from their comfort zone.

it doesn't matter anymore. He's the best player in the league by about as big of a gap there was when Jordan played and he was at the top. He actually has a shot at the GOAT. I can't believe I'm actually saying this knowing how much I ripped the guy and called other people crazy for saying he might be #1.

Do you think Lebron could have locked down Shaq?

His goal is to win mvp, dpoy, and finals mvp in one year, it's the one thing that you can do that can set you apart from mike.

Maybe because at the end of their careers that is what we primarily judge them on. Numbers and awards. Those are the only two tangible measurements of how great a player was.

Most versatile defender this league has ever seen. It's a crime he gets robbed of this award year after year.

How do you answer that we're not giving it to Dwight Howard then? He played more and produced more.....?

I don't have to answer that because I didn't claim that Howard did not deserve the award. In fact I do believe that Howard is a better defensive player than both of Duncan and Gasol. But that's irrelevant.

You did make the claim that Duncan was less deserving than Gasol and your only argument was that Duncan played less. When the poster presented the evidence of Duncan producing more in less time, you simply made that assertion again without addressing his argument at all.

Maybe got something to do with the fact that even as good as a defensive player as Dwight is, his team sucked on D. The lakers finished 19 on defensive rating. You must know that is below league average.
Ill agree that nash on d is like playing 4 on 5, but u cant have a defensive player of the year anchoring such a bad defense.
You first got to look and reward the best defenses.
But maybe... maybe you are right, Howard was more deserving... but the reallity is , media dont know who is the best defender in the league, players do. This should be a players voting, since they know way better who defends great and who makes them really hard to score.

Because its not an assertion - its a fact. Duncan is no longer a full time player and this alone is enough IMO to disqualify him from cumulative season awards.

Generally the cutoff to officially be the NBA statistical leader in a category is 70 games. He did not meet that requirement - so no need to talk about pace and all the other things that factor in, let alone your simplistic assumption that its all blocks and boards.

Im not saying its blocks and boards, thats just the obvious since u can check their stats. Duncan contested ( and altered) a looooot more shots than gasol did, he also anchored a top 3 def, and he didnt have the help of another top 3 dpoy ( leonard is good, not tony allen good) in doing so.

Lol where did this come from? Magic didn't lock down Shaq. Lebron Locked down D. Rose. I am confused as to why this is brought up.

The "Lebron locks down 1-5" argument is a good argument for DPOY, BUT he is not the first player to do so.

And bringing up Magic vs. D-Rose as support for that argument is reaching. Compare apples to apples people. Magic hasn't played against the players today anymore than Lebron played against the guys in Magic's time.

When Lebron's team is the #1 or 2 team in the league in defense, he can say something. But the facts are, the grizzlies have 2 players that are better than Lebron on their team:
    Marc and Tony.

And for that matter, Pippen was a better defender in his day than Lebron is and Paul George ain't that far behind Lebron either.

Stick to being MVP Lebron, because you aren't the best defender in the league. You just aren't.

Also, Lebron can't even Guard Rudy Gay, but he's going to Guard Marc Gasol? I haven't seen that one yet.

Maybe he can guard Kendrick Perkins.

Not a fair comparison. No one could lock down Shaq.
