Obviously we hit on our first round pick from a fit and talent standpoint as I inferred by your response so by not being able to "fill out the roster" means we won't do the same in the later rounds? Why must I spell this out?

Yes, that is what I meant. Finding starters throughout the draft, not stars, but guys who you aren't looking to replace every year. We don't really get a pipeline of average players going.

A bit late to the party, but in skimming through the responses in this thread, I think I mirror emjohn's thoughts. I think a good DT/NT will be available later, though I'm not sure that Wade places as high an emphasis as I think we internet warriors do. Johnathan Hankins and Kawann Short are still there, for example.

The question about Hopkins is ultimately whether he is going to be the successor for Dre, or if he'll just be a solid #2. For this year, with the Texans' window rapidly closing, it makes sense to get the most NFL-ready WR. I watched a few Clemson games, and though I wasn't as big on their offense as many seemed to be, especially A_3P0, I saw flashes from Nuk that I thought would make him a very good NFL receiver. Hopefully he won't be relegated to the old #2 duty of outside run blocker.

I think he can be like an Anquan type WR. I can see the parallels between Roddy White and Nuk, but I don't see that high a ceiling for him. Hopefully I'm wrong, as I thought JJ Watt would be a solid but unspectacular player when we first drafted him. Still, it was the BPA at a position of need, and I am learning to trust the front office under this regime.

As for the Patriots' trade, I think Houston taking Hopkins was the linchpin for that move for Minny. Basically, I don't think that trade would have been available for the Texans, as it was contingent on what we did. So that's a moot point and shouldn't be factored into determining whether this was a good pick.

I see Rick Dennison and Mike Mayock are friends....

In fact, with the shock that Mayock showed when we picked Montgomery, I'd say he has a few friends within our ranks.

Is this supposed to be a diss to Hopkins? Or are you just saying that Sammy Watkins is probably a top five pick and that Clemson had a ridiculous offense last year?
