The Galveston/Houston connection remains, even today, the quickest and most direct route from Houston to Galveston. I wish it were still there.
There was a line that ran in the 90's, but stopped running because 1. Insane insurance costs 2. Politicians intentionally destroying union station to build the ballpark to ensure no connection with Galveston. Really incredible op-ed article. I recall the stadium site being moved at some point leading up to the construction, but didn't realize the extent to what occurred. What an absolute shame. Would've been fantastic to have the ability to ride on into the stadium. Any links to original layout/renderings (with the rail lines)?

I've said this before when the subject came up, but what the heck. My mother and grandmother used to ride the streetcars from Woodland Heights (where Mom grew up in the '20's and '30's) to Downtown all the time. It was very cheap and very reliable. Many decades later, she still missed the streetcars.
