Who is he suppose to pass the ball to? Asik? Lin? who can't hit set wide open shots? kinda scared when lin an harden drive to the hole n pass it back out. OKC has been reading that pretty well and are waiting for steals. Also they have freakn Ibaka to monitor the basket. I rather have him be agressive. On a fast break , no problem.
Are you sure he doesn't have bunch of groupies following him? But again his followers probably don't understand or care about what he does on the court.
I don't mind him taking shots, but he could have dunked half the layups he missed. His shot selection was also terrible in the 4th quarter.
He's not looking to pass when he has it. He's shooting contested threes. Do you know how many times this season Parsons had 0 assists? Once, and that was very early this season. Now he's done it twice in less than a week in back to back games. The rockets didn't just have one bad shooting night all season. Yes, but can't he play defense AND pass the ball more? If anything, that saves him more energy. If he's tired from playing good d, then shooting so much isn't a great idea, is it? My concern is the lack of offensive adjustment in back to back games. Drawing more shooting fouls and swinging the ball more will make things easier for him on offense and help the team. Trying to be the go to guy doesnt help him or the team.
I was screaming this at my TV last night. Attack those shot blockers and force either a great play (Ibaca on Asik) or a foul. Explode off the drive and drop the hammer on those bigs. Those soft rolls and extended layup attempts are just screaming to get blocked or at least changed.
To his credit he did pass to a guy on the perimeter who then swung it to some other guy. He also attempted a pass or 2 to Asik who couldn't finish. But seriously Parsons has to stop trying to play hero and create shots for himself. We've seen all season that he can't do it, what makes the playoffs any different. That terrible 3 he took late in the 4th quarter had me seething.
And going back to that late three point attempt where he got the defender in the air, he had that foul, if he wanted it. You can't get a cleaner fake than that and he instead went around him. It's going to take time, but he needs to change his mindset and not always look for lateral moves. Sometimes you just have to take the contact. You can't avoid the big hits and then think you're going to get touch fouls called (which i think he expected on some of his layup attempts).
this. parsons needs to take more contact while harden maybe needs to take less and just try to finish instead of barreling into the lane
Almost all of his shots were "good" shots, open looks or slightly contested, or shots with barely any time on the shot clock. He didn't shoot well, but they were still shots he has hit all year with reasonable consistency. Perhaps the calf injury that had him out at the end of the year still isn't 100%, but I don't think he was taking shots that were any different from what he has taken all year. Just didn't hit as many of them. The no assist stat is pretty meaningless as far as Parsons being "selfish". Show me some clips of Parsons taking bad shots when other players were wide open and we can talk. I don't recall any that stood out to me. He can certainly play better, but I don't think his problem was being selfish and he is the only one on team remotely capable of slowing Durant down.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have here a person who knows nothing about basketball. Larry Sanders approves.
I'm really starting to like Parson's game. The more I watch him, his game really reminds me of Peja's. Believe it or not, Peja was only about a 41% career 3pt shooter. I say "only" because Peja was known as lethal behind the arc. Chandler's game reminds me a lot of his.
If he's not giving the offense a chance to develop, how are guys going to be open? Are any guys open when Harden has the ball and is going one on one? No. They become open after he drives and draws defenders. Parsons isn't Harden. He doesn't drive as well as Harden and doesn't draw defenders the same way. He needs to go back to attacking within the flow of their offense.
