Seriously, this is just getting ridiculous. They're not cornerstones teams can build on, they're the support beams at best.
Well, you can't start 5 max players. We have him locked up for $2 million until 2015 and $298,000 this season (I think that's the cap hit during the off-season). He makes Lin expendable if we want to upgrade the Roster at other positions. We can add a max player and a player well above the MLE. Well done Morey.
Lin is getting better all the time. He'll be borderline all star by the final year of his contract and if he isn't his expiring contract will be very valuable in a trade.
Why can't they both start? In NY they started 2 PGs all season long using 2 of these 3 players (Prigioni, Kidd, Felton). The Lakers are now starting 2 PGs too.
My thoughts on this is basically Beverley is pushing to make Lin "great." If Lin doesn't become great, then he should be traded because Morey can seemingly conjour up "decent" PGs out of nowhere whenever he feels like it. So does Lin have the IT factor? I give this entire season a pass because of the offseason recovery and resulting lack of work on his jumpshot. But this offseason and next season will prove crucial to his future. If he stays like this, I can easily imagine Morey trade him at the deadline next season for an expiring contract or something to that affect. If he makes a jump into making Linsanity more consistent, then we'll never have to deal with Lin vs his backup PG threads ever again.
Lin can be a great player IF he is allowed to play to his strengths. He can still put up huge numbers as a ball dominant PG. In turn, this would alleviate the ridiculous pressure placed on harden, whose efficiency has gone down the toilet for the past two months, and has been on a downward slide at a slower rate throughout the second half of the season. The problem is obvious: McHale thinks very little of Lin's abilities as a traditional PG. Mchale's goal is to relegate Lin to a tertiary role, or less, getting rid of the ball as quickly as possible, staying out of harden's way, and occasionally jacking up a 3 when harden is tripled or when a play has broken down completely. Lin will never complain, but there has to be a breaking point; most likely with Harden's body breaking down completely, as Lin seems completely unwilling to complain. As long as mchale is around, Lin will be playing with handcuffs.
pewpew - nailed it I gotta admit, before Lin came along I was just an NBA fan, pretty much only following the best teams because they played the best and most entertaining ball. But along came Lin and all that, and he comes to Houston, and I actually start supporting a sports team seriously for the first time since the Aussie cricket team fell apart and Amar'e left the Suns. But if Lin's still putting up 13 and 6 by the all star break next year, I'm probably going back to just following the nba shallowly, though Rockets will still be my fav. team by a decent margin. Also, if hes still 13 and 6, I'd bet Bev would have replaced him by then, and it'd be fair. BUT I HAVE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE My prediction for Lin next year 15 pts 6.5 ast and 3.5 rebs with 2 stls I think this is reasonable with a little bit of individual improvement+training camp+chemistry+better pnr partner (maybe?) and I don't think we'll ever see another month like we 2012 November from him. On Bev, this guy is playing GREAT, and I think next year he could be up for an all defensive selection. He could take Lin's spot after this series possibly, but it would take even stronger play over the rest of series and Lin sucking. My opinion in the form of a big block of text. Thanks for reading
Why do you have to troll. You are literally 80% of the reason people **** on Lin around here as much as they do
This summer, some team is going to ask for Beverly's service, so Morey will be even busier. Lin's job is safe unless we get an offer that is unbeverliable that is beneficial to the Rockets.
Lin would be a tough trade with that 14 mil balloon year, he only counts 8m against the Rockets cap if he is traded the last year counts as full. DD
If they can get a decent offer, Lin will be shipped off. It's for the best for both parties involved. i.e. Trade Lin without taking a contract back.
Linsanity notwithstanding, I have always seen Lin as a very good back up, maybe a kind of sixth man like Manu. Not sure Beverly is NBA starter material either, but he had a good night yesterday. I like both of them and would keep both. I still think Brooks can contribute too. Coming off the bench cold in a big game and instantly produce is a lot to ask.
Well said, Harden could really use a training camp and he could certainly play some three. Let's hope TJones who is the best finisher and most athletic of our PFs pen out, that would be really something. (dreaming......)
Be careful, just because a lot of people don't like something doesn't make it false. But of course, this could be trolling: Be careful with your wordings, tone this **** down.
I was under the impression that any team he is traded to would be taking on the contract, and salary cap hit that the Rockets are subject to which is 8/8/8 against the cap. Since after this season he has one 2 years left on his deal, Im assuming he will be relatively easy to trade between the trade deadline of next year, and the Summer of 2014. Not sure you could get a ton back for him at this point which leads me to believe that the Rockets will probably just ride it out with him this Summer and next year unless they need his salary off the books to take on a "super" max contract. Still I wouldn't be surprised if Morey makes a few calls to potentially move him if for some reason Dwight hits the market on July 1st. If no Dwight or CP3... you will probably see Lin with this team for the majority if not all of next season.

Houston fans, media, and the coaching staff all season have been EAGER to replace Lin with any guard behind him - Douglas, Beverly, even wishing they still had Lowry or Dragic. People dismiss Lin's great games last year due to small sample size (though 25 starts is a pretty robust sample). Then, off of just a FEW games, Douglas or Beverly games, people are so eager to give them more playing time over Lin. It's completely ridiculous. It's called confirmation bias. You selectively remember the bad plays and dismiss all the good plays and good games, to fit a prejudged negative bias / prejudice about a certain player. Lin just put up 82 games of almost the same production as he did last year, while having the ball in his hands half as much as before, and his shooting% improved while turnovers went down too. He had a better season than Lowry, did more to help his team win than Dragic, and is a far superior passer, playmaker, and floor general than Beverly or Douglas ever were or will be. He is also a great defensive player, but he's hurt by very lazy generalizations that he supposedly can't go left or doesn't play good defense.
