Taking the best player available served us pretty well last year.

I don't remember us having a huge need at 3/4 DE when we drafted Watt. At the time, we had a huge need at CB and everyone wanted Amukamara.

Well, that was 2 years ago. But you're right about needing a CB and people wanting to draft Amukamara. We filled that need by signing Joseph in July, after the draft. Sadly, we don't have the cap flexibility we did then, so a similar move is not likely.

Last year we took Mercilus, who spent most of the year as a backup. He'll start this year. OLB wasn't an immediate need but most people saw him as Barwin's replacement should we not be able to re-sign him, which is what happened. Time will tell if it was a good pick or not.

You can't deny his talent. Him next to Cush would would be incredible. Besides Mingo he's the best pass rushing lb in the draft

I'm not so sure he's even an OLB... given his previous safety pedigree he would more than likely become our best cover ILB next to Cushing.

One of his major weaknesses is that he gets caught up on the line and has trouble in traffic. If we are looking to upgrade our cover LB ability in the late 1st he would more than likely be the best prospect available, but as far as pass rushing goes I don't even think he's in the class of Mercilus the year before.

with cushing healthy and come on you guys know he is doing some intensive training, why draft a linebacker that is not going to play 60% of the plays. Same thing goes for DT. The first round pick will be a receiver. book it! unless of course, we don't draft a receiver. =)

Lance and Charlie discussed the possibility of taking Geno Smith at 27 if he somehow falls that far.

I bet it will be either a right tackle or a trade down into the second round.

I can't remember where I saw the mock draft (CBS Sportsline I THINK) where the guy guessed the Bills would trade up to #27, giving the Texans their 2nd round pick this year and next, and then Houston drafting WR Corderelle Patterson and LB Minter with their now two 2nds. Seemed like a pretty good scenario getting those two players while getting a high pick for next season (to draft Schaub's successor?).

Minter potentially could be someone that drops down to us in the second. But if we don't take him there, he'll go soon after. For some reason, I can see Patterson really slipping. I think teams are weary of his lack of IQ, but his physical ability is definitely there. I don't know though, I could be wrong on that, and he might even go early in the second.

Heck if I know. I'm no draft expert nor am I that knowledgeable on the draftees. But, that was based on that one guy's MOCK draft. Based on other mocks, it seems very unlikely because I've seen both guys' names crop up a lot in the late first round/early second. Then again, everything that I've heard and read, it seems the difference in talent isn't a whole lot so conceivably there's a chance players could really rise or fall just based on teams' perceptions and needs.

I just thought, IF that were to somehow come to fruition, it seemed like a good outcome.

If he does, I have a feeling the Texans will trade down with whoever wants him, and look to get an extra 2nd rounder this year and next.

I could see Barkley being a real possibility there. Smith wont be around.

Yeah there's no way they are going to draft a qb this year. There aren't any russel wilsons or kink cousins in this year's draft.

I hope teams in the 30 range get desparate for a qb and we can trade down and pick up an extra pick too.

I've been claling for Hunt since January. He's insurance and assurance for us at the DE spot for the next 10 years. His length along with Watt will be incredible. Not a sexy pick but very practical, much like the Watt pick. Don't be surprised if the Texans go this route.

I would LOVE to put Margus Hunt opposite of Watt in passing situations and watch how teams try and game plan for that. If the trade down route doesn't pan out, I would be stoked to see Hunt as a Texan.

Patterson wont be left if San Francisco has a chance...they want to stock pile on talent that doesnt have to contribute till a couple of years later...but patterson has tools that could already make him quite special

This...If JJ Watt is on one side, imagine how hard it would be to go against two towering beasts..The only problem i have with this move is what does that mean for Antonio Smith...

I personally would see if that Bills trade is plausible and seek to move down in the draft(into the 2nd round) get your WR first and then go after a safety...
That would be excellent...and mind yall that we also have 2 picks in the third round....that would be excellent...

But i'd be happy with Margus Hunt...he seems to fit the mold of another JJ Watt...;)
