If all those teams are trying to trade down, then the smart move would be to take advantage of that and trade up. Would love to nab a NT a little higher in the first.
Yep, he traded down to get extra picks, and use some of those extra picks to move up. Question is will he be different this year? I say no. I keep hearing Buffalo wants to draft QB so interesting trade scenario is we trade down to get some extra picks if the player we want is off the board. Decisions decisions, love it!
I tend to agree, a buyers market for trading up, so why not do it? IMO only for a defensive lineman or WR that we think is elite.
They would be wise to go TE either ERTZ or EIFERT in the 1st and then again in the later rounds. Drop OD next year and free up more cap. 1st: TE 2nd: WR 3rd: OLB/ILB 3rd: NT 4th: Safety 4th: OLB/ILB 5th: TE 6th: BPA 7th: BPA
http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/40968/321/a-violent-collision-seeker This article was written before Tyrann Matheiu's drug tests and subsequent dismisal from the LSU team, but its a great take on this guy's versaility. I know the Texans do not usually take players with off-the-field issues but his versatility would be widely used by Wade Phillips. They guy can cover, hit, blitz and most of all he is a PLAYMAKER. Would love the Texans to take him with pick #95 but I am not sure he will make it there.
Rick Smith press conference, says they will go BPA http://www.houstontexans.com/tv-med...re-Draft/d5da44c7-2db7-42e9-96de-71f9ea6d8186
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Rick Smith has made 8 trades in 6 drafts as <a class="hashtag" action="hash" title="#Texans">#Texans</a> GM (1+ in every draft but 2009). 6 of those have been trades down</p>— Nick Scurfield (@NickScurfield) <a href="https://twitter.com/NickScurfield/status/326845002485489665" data-datetime="2013-04-23T23:48:15+00:00">April 23, 2013</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
There is a reason it is a buyer's market. There is a very broad base of talent, but it is not clear that the BPA at 20 has more talent than BPA at 45 or 50. I appreciate that in general, you could say that any year, but apparently it is especially true this year. if you have someone specific you're chasing that you think someone else will pick it makes sense, but just generally trading up to get higher in hopes of getting a higher impact player may not be productive thisyear. Depending on how far you move you are probably talking about a third or fourth round pick. that is a player who could potentially play this year
I'm actually looking for good nfl/ncaa scouting websites. Preferably ones that contain in depth reports on players likely to get chosen in the later rounds. What websites would you recommend?
So many WR graded in the 90s...we can get just as good in the 2nd rd. as the late first unless there is one the Texans absolutely love avail at 27 pick... Can't wait to see how it plays out.
I get most of my information via twitter. Excellent way to get "good" tidbits of information on draftable players. That being said, here are some websites where I get my information: I like the CBS.com draft prospects rankings, provides an estimated rating of where said player will be drafted. I frequently visit the http://www.rotoworld.com/NFL Draft Page. They are primarily a fantasy sports based website but like twitter to they provide good quick information http://NFLdraftbreakdown.com is supposed to be the go to source for video on any prospect. I dont have the time to invest in watching videos on prospects, but if you havea guy in mind you can visit this website and look at his tape. Its good tape too as its not just highlights. Everyone has their own preferences. NFL.com its also good as well as the oft visited Walterfootball.com which is one of the few websites that does a 7 round mock.
No reason to trade up for a NT. it's an extremely deep draft class for NT's and not many teams have a need for it, even seeing Jessie Williams available for us too pick in the second round on some mocks
Interesting notes from Lance Zierlein via twitter yesterday evening [QUOTE Over the last 8 years, there have only been 4 WRs who were 6'3+, ran a sub 4.45, had vert of 38.5+ & broad jump of 11'+ (continued) Those four WRs are Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones, Stephen Hill and Justin Hunter. Odds are that Hunter goes in the 1st round Mario Williams, JJ Watt & Margus Hunt are only prospects 6'5+, 277+, bench of 34+, arm length of 33"+ w/ sub 4.82 40 yard dash since 2005 The Texans drafted both Williams and Watt. Will they take Margus Hunt at #27?
Interesting notes from Lance Zierlein via twitter yesterday evening Sorry for the quote fail. Is there a way to edit? I have lurked for years on clutchfans but dont post often
Marcus is 6-8 277 and ran 4.6-40? That is lebron james level athleticism. He even did 38 reps. This guy doesn't seem real. I wonder if he has been juicing because these number are just so crazy. I guess you just hope you can teach him the football part, but with that strength and speed he is going to be hard to block.
Damn, no kidding. Just did a search on this guy and his numbers is absolutely crazy. Watt and Hunt on the ends?
The thing about Hunt, is aside from blocking some shots, he just doesn't seem to be that good. Williams and Watt, especially Watt, were flat out great in college. Hunt is definitely more of a project. I wouldn't be upset if we took him though.
