Cultural difference DOES MATTER in these things.

The PLAYERS run the league in the NBA. The iron will tactician PJ Carlesimo type approach doesnt jive too well (Though it probably SHOULD). Even if he is better, the players might dilute him down

I know I sound crazy, but Vujošević is a magician wirh youngsters, he turns a bunch of nobodies into great players. Peković was an uneducated hillbilly with no feel for the game until he got his hands on him. And now Pek is a starting center in the NBA. If Vujošević had a full season with this talented team, I guarantee you that they'd die on the floor for every ball and that our biggest problem, power forwards, would blossom. His signature coaching move is to substitute a player out immediately after he commited a turnover or missed 2-3 open shots or didn't give an effort on defense. No more Lin screwing around with the ball or Harden standing around on d. If you don't play well, there's someone on the bench who will.
IMO, Houston already has a chance against every Western conference playoff team that's not named Oklahoma City or San Antonio. A great coach could give Rockets a chance in those matchups, too.

But again, Duško Vujošević will never make it in the NBA because he doesn't speak English and Shroopy did mention another thing - cultural differences. Duško loves to swear (like a true Serbian does), especially at refs and his own players, although he always says: I swear, but I don't insult anyone. I don't believe him on that one lol

Enough about Vujošević because Obradović is better than him, along with a couple of other coaches (Duda Ivković f.e.).

Its not to say that they could NOT effective. Jerry Sloan is a no-nonsense potty mouth. Larry Brown is a "play the right way" type. Pat Riley isnt a sweetheart.

It depends on how much front office support there is, a right blend of players, if the coach is willing to adapt and adjust some things. If his x's - o's still come through, etc.

Its just easier for a foreign player to blend in as 1 of many, than the many to convert to the foreign coach.

Just again in the NBA, "discipline" and fundamentals coach Jeff Van Gundy, still coddled the stars. Thats kinda how it goes. But not my money, I want to see it attempted lol. (Just not on the Rockets)
