People have to realize even though mchale hasnt exactly let Lin always play through mistakes and sat him a lot in the 4th, its on jeremy to really prove he can play. Sometimes it is rediculous when he gets benched and hes playing hot, but other times Lin is struggling real bad and beverly is the better option. It really is on Jeremy to keep up with being consistent. He clearly is a confidence player, but this is the NBA, and players have to play good coming off the bench or through out the entire game. Confidence is something he needs to be able to mentally keep sky high for himself. Next year really will indicate what his progress will look like. A lot of players took several seasons before they were really good, some players only need one season. Lin clearly is looking like hes showing flashes and needs another season or two. Players can only develop so much if they let their confidence drop all the time, even when the coaches don't appear to show faith in you. It's on Lin to not let that happen. Of course his conditioning can help too in the off-season, his back to back games are just atrocious. lol
No it isn't - that is 100% on the player, Jeremy needs to get better at protecting the ball, staying in front of his man and hitting jumpers off the ball, most of which are wide open - catch and shoot etc. He has flaws that need to be addressed to become a complete NBA player - and I have no doubt he will get there. McHale did what he thought was right to try to win that particular night, he is not in the development business. And - this is from a fan who dislikes McHale as coach, big time. Stop passing the buck, Jeremy isn't, so neither should we fans. DD
I averaged Lin's salary because that was his cap hit. He didn't sign an extention. He signed a contract. His contract started this season. Harden's max deal hasn't started so you can't "average" it out because its not the same a Lin. Backtracking? I'm helping Lin as much as possible by putting a $5 million tag on him since it is really $8 mil.
Even Parker gets benched for stinking it up. But Parker is a hell of a lot more experienced so tends to go through suckage games a lot less.
Lin has already made tangible improvements in his ball handling and shooting, borne out through his season averages. His problem, his number 1 issue, is confidence. He exhibits all of the traits McHale often talks about regarding young players: difficulty turning a bad game around, compounding mistakes, not knowing where to go/what to do/headless chicken syndrome. These issues are all on full display when he is lacking in confidence, and you can throw his shooting and ball handling out the window too. While some argue that the coach coddling him is the solution, that would only be a short term fix. It would fix his confidence, but he would develop career lasting bad habits without someone holding him accountable. McHale is taking the other approach. The Coach Popovich approach. Trial by fire, and see who burns. This is the NBA, not kindergarten. This is where men go to work, not where kids play and need their teacher to pat them on the back. Many Lin fans who are new to professional basketball may be unaware of these truths in life. It's okay though, because Jeremy Lin himself is well aware of it. And Coach McHale will make a man out of him yet. To answer the OP, coach is doing a hell of a job.
Lin's good at shooting off the dribble, but our system requires him to catch and shoot. Lin's good at PNR, but the system doesn't have good rollman and there're less screens set for him. Lin's good at controlling the offense with ball in his hand, but we only want to share the ball and initiate offense within the flow. Lin's good at understanding/executing advanced offense, but we generally don't run many plays. ................ Those being said, coach want to win games in ways he's comfortable with, and it's up to Lin to adjust and develop in this kind of awkward situation. It's not ideal fit for each party, and we can only hope it works out somehow. Otherwise it maybe better for both to part ways in a win-win trade.
That's not entirely true. McHale himself stated that some of his players were getting more minutes than they deserve based on their play for the purposes of development. Coaches can and do have a tremendous impact on player development. And while winning on any given night is a high priority, it's not the only priority, especially with a young and inexperienced team. Great coaches are great because they can not only find ways to win games, but also balance it with the development of their players. Pops is the gold standard for this. Year in and year out he changes the roster, molds the players, guides their development and year after year he has a legitimate contending team. Yes, Pops has Duncan. However Tony Parker didn't start as a gang busters player. Many had doubts about Ginobli. Bench players like Green, Splitter and other have blossomed under Pops. If development didn't matter why do some players stagnate under certain coaches and blossom under others? JR Smith is an example of this. Under Woodson he has become a far better player. The NBA is littered with players who never reached their potentials. Yes, the responsibility is ultimately on them, but like the mentors of our youth, the right coach, teacher or mentor can make a tremendous difference.
Very poor attempt to wiggle your way out with some lousy semantics. You paint yourself as a person calling a duck a duck aka if it walks, swims and quacks like one, it is definitely one. Harden has been extended like a maxed player. He was promised to be a maxed player. He is treated like a maxed player. He is accepted, acknowledged and addressed, both in the organization, on this board and by the general public, as the max player of the Rockets. That is on top of the fact that he is under guaranteed max money by the Rockets with no escape from it unless he gets traded. But right now, you are saying he isn't a max player. So he (and the others who played like crap as well) deserve to get off the hook since they are playing up to their contracts, while you use said hook to skewer Jeremy wholesale. What kind of nonsensical opinion is this? In addition, not only do you do said skewering, you pile on to this thread, and you shout many other posters down who try to put in a more reasonable view or counterpoint to you. That's a deep deep deep hole your head is stuck in. At least, in the hole where my head is stuck in, there's still some light, since I can clearly distinguish the insincerity you have behind your statement of "I'm helping Lin as much as possible". Nothing you have said in this thread have been made in the spirit of helping Lin. And with that, I've got nothing more to say to you.
The "ideal fit" for Lin was a desperate lottery-bound Knicks team palying for Dead-man-walking Mike D'Antoni as coach next to scrubs like Novak. Probalby not somethign you want your team to emulate
Corrected. McHale has done his best to minimize Lin's play to prove he was right in agreeing to waive him last year.
It seems to me Jeremy Lin is producing at the same level as a Knick. I've posted this before but he's averaging almost the same amount of assists and points at the same percentages as he did in NY only with more minutes. I think he's doing well from coming off of knee surgery. He can only get better from here.
I'm wondering what kind of deep ingrained insecurities one must possess to fabricate this kind of conspiracy. The world is not out to get Lin. And by reflection, the world is not out to get you. I know it's tough growing up as an Asian American here, from first hand experience. It gets better, friend. Go work out at a local gym so you don't have the body of a 12 year old school girl anymore. Get rid of that buzz cut from Supercuts. Go become that doctor or lawyer mama always wanted of you. Go buy yourself a nice sports coat and some matching socks. After all that, you can go put yourself out there and find a nice decent woman. I know you can. And then, I want you to bring her home, and bang the living day lights out of her. That way, you can finally stop beating off to Jeremy Lin pictures for **** sake.
It's either his pride or he's the dumbest fuc**ng coach on earth. If you don't realize he's screwing the team because of his pride then you are the dumbest fuc**ng fan on earth.
You can't make Chicken Salad with Chicken **** anyway. Jeremy is an incomplete NBA player. That's the truth. He has work to do and if you expect McHale to hold Lin's hand during dribbling drills in the summer then you're dead wrong.
I don't like how McHale used Lin in the regular season. But in the first game of the playoffs, McHale gave him a lot of minutes even he played like *****. You can't blame the coach every time. Like someone already pointed out, the problem with Lin is his inability to turn a bad game around. At least for this season, the more minutes McHale gave him, the more mistakes he made. I just hope he will use this offseason to seriously improve his game, develop some true goto moves on which he can fall back when everything is stuck. Forget about make some BS Asia tour and try to make some quick money.
I hope this drubbing and humiliation he suffered stays with him for a long time and that he becomes a better player for it. Like Jordan against the Pistons. Not saying Lin is Jordan (lol) but I hope he learns a lesson here, otherwise the whole effort for the season would be wasted.
Questioning James Harden getting the max deal is utterly foolish, and to virtually nobody's surprise...the overwhelming majority of those questioning it are Lin Fans....
