Since all we can do now is theorize, I'd like to share mine. I think the brothers underestimated how fast the authorities can link them to the incident. Going through their regular routine after the incident seems to imply this. Once they got ID'd and not having any money or resources, they went into desperation mode.
Could be they were intending to do more attacks (they still had plenty of bombs, apparently), a la Washington Sniper, but didn't do nearly as good a job of keeping themselves from being identified. Had they avoided being IDed, they could lay low for a bit and then do another bombing and have the city just completely terrorized. I have to wonder about what they were hoping to accomplish though. If they just wanted to hurt people, fine, it worked. But, if they were fighting jihad or for Chechen independence, it doesn't really contribte to the cause unless people know who did it and why. At least the Ricin attack on the president came with a note explaining the motivation.
I agree, hard to say what their exit strategy was (if they had any) or what the motivation was. Hoping that the questionings will yield some answers for all of us.
That's why I originally thought this was more of a "chaos-inspired" act (similar to the Unabomber) than one out of political or religious reasons. Normally, the latter are done with the goal of drawing attention to their cause and making a statement.
It's possible that -- like the unabomber -- they would eventually come out with a manifesto if they went long enough without getting caught. If they were really a cell of some foreign terrorist organization, I'd think the organization would be quick to claim the victory.
The more I read about Tamerlan, the more I wonder why his fellow Muslims didn't turn him in. There were clear signs the guy was nutty. Seems like a lot could have been avoided with a little help from the people of his mosque. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...7131250259170.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_LEFTTopStories
just because someone says something like that you don't turn them in. There are plenty of white supremecists here and I've heard about them talking about lynching black people....but nobody turns them in. I think the threshold for what raises alarms has deff gone lower though and people might turn others in for things like that.
looks like the motivation wasn't an overseas terrorist group, but rather simply religion -- Islam http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...-bombing-motivated-by-religion_n_3135099.html Boston Marathon Bombing Suspects Motivated By Religion, Say Two U.S. Officials WASHINGTON — Two U.S. officials say preliminary evidence from an interrogation suggests the suspects in the Boston Marathon attack were motivated by their religious views but were apparently not tied to any Islamic terrorist groups. The two brothers, from southern Russia, practiced Islam. The U.S. officials spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the investigation.
Well, I'll say this. If an emerging FBI profile for potential terrorist is an adult male, unemployed, who lives off his wife's work and posts online as a religious zealot, ... we're going to have about 2 million new suspects south of Virginia and East of New Mexico.
He wasn't turned in because he didn't make threats. The two times he interrupted the services were to yell when they talked about celebrating an Islamic holiday because he felt celebrating any holiday was against Islam and to yell when the sermon mentioned Martin Luther King. He was told to leave and then they talked to him afterwards and told him if he wanted to come back he'd have to stop interrupting. He didn't attend every time the mosque had prayers either. I wish there had been more signs early on that could have prevented this.
Yeah, without threats, you can't do anything. Trust me. The scenario above just sounds like your average faculty meeting.
It is very strange why they were bombing without having any obvious cause to...but look closer at the older brother...failed boxer, failed student, failed husband, radical religious nut from a war torn country with ties to terrorists and a hatred for the country he's in. He sounds like the type of guy that liked to hurt and manipulate people. He was a disturbed and sadistic piece of s#%t basically. From what others talked about his outbursts in the mosque and discussions with his neighbors about how christians and the US used the bible for evil purposes...it was obvious he was blaming the US and its people for whatever problems he had in his life. Much like many of the other mass murders the US has endured recently.
How can someone not believe in a disorder? Why is it important that these people are showing symptoms of PTSD? Is this a concern?
Who doesn't believe in it? Didn't see that anywhere in the article...unless I missed something. Well, yes, it clearly is a concern. I'm completely confused trying to figure out what is confusing or outrageous to you on this?
I was asked if I don't believe in it, I was stating that it doesn't make sense to not believe in it. Why is it a concern? What does it matter if people show PTSD symptoms?
What are you talking about? Why not answer your own question so we have some indication what your intent is?
