How do high school kids really know what they will end up doing? You are trying to build a foundation in high school. You will never know what subject you studied in high school will be useful later.

To me four years of English and Math should be required for all high school kids. Math not only teach you the math concepts but also methods of solving problems logically, which are useful later in life even if you are not using the math.

I wouldn't presume to think nor tell an entire class that they won't need to know something when they have their whole lives ahead of them. And I'm betting at least a handful in whatever class she was in would definitely need it. Add the statistical likelihood that they will change majors in college and/or careers.

And while a lot of stuff I learned in HS has little to do w/ my career, I'm sure it's helped me have a better understanding of topics whether I encounter them in the news or in personal discussion or talking to my doctor or some other situation.

99% of kids who only want to learn acting or basketball, etc, will have an eye opening lesson later in life.

If you start out reading about Reese Witherspoon but end up reading about math, you might be on Clutchfans.

How many people make it to pro on any level? How many even make it to college basketball team out of all the high school basketball players?

How many become Hollywood stars and how many become waiters for life after they cannot make a career in acting?
