Ok i think we all realize the Rockets played poorly this game, especially Jeremy Lin who looked like he was exposed, but I have a theory on why he may lack the skills that some other PGs have. Jeremy Lin has an incredible first step which he relies on 90% of the time to score. He doesn't use a lot of hesitation moves or crossovers like a Steph Curry or Andre Miller. He just puts his head down and drives or spot up for the shot. That's completely fine to have a quick drive as your go-to-move, but when the lane isn't there he's kind of useless and can't do anything to get a bucket. On top of that his decision making is REALLY SUSPECT, with risky passes that are often turnovers. The passes he will connect on are nice but he doesn't connect with them consistently enough. As a result you have a one dimensional point guard who's not really a point guard. He's a combo guard but with scoring limitations. Anyway my theory for his poor play is because when Jeremy was a kid he never thought he'd play in the NBA. He focused on his academics first and basketball second. I don't think he ever attended a point guard camp like so many young point guards do now to hone their skills. As a result you have a very raw player who has just enough talent and athleticism to compete. This is just my theory why Lin may not have the scoring moves of a Steph Curry or Damien Lillard. He should use this offseason to attend Chris Paul's PG camp maybe he'll get a better handle.
agreed. he was exposed against the #1 team in the west, and against a superstar pg. dang. i feel bad pgs who get shut down by okc.
That's ridiculous. Point guard camp? What about all the time he spent playing in college and the D-league? People are just grasping at straws because they're trying to make sense of what happened last night... when the obvious answers are 1) it's OKC 2) it's almost everyone's first playoffs and 3) the team just isn't that good.
his mom said she made him study lol if his grades dropped, shed not let him go to practice very interesting analysis he has very limited scoring moves weve never seen him crossover like AI hope he learns some moves from his best friend steph curry over the summer
When Lin makes the jumper, he has confidence and drives into the lane better. if not, he relies on penetrate too much so he offense is predictable. And he always holds the ball for several seconds and thinks too much to make play for teammates. It makes him can't be a qualified SG to play with Harden.
He has no playoff experience, that's why he struggled tonight. It's pretty simple. Everyone played like **** cause we don't got any experience. Harden was okay today, but he does have experience. He struggled, but he didn't look scared like everyone else.
Nvm this whole post is ridiculous. Lin's been playing poorly because his mom made him study and he didn't go to Chris Paul's PG camp? Good one.
Maybe he played poorly cause it was his first playoff game playing in a super hostile environment against arguably the best team in the league?
Except for Harden, the whole team lacks playoff experience. Even though people think Harden's the team "leader", and despite the fact that almost everyone sucks, Lin is still going to get most of the blame. It's truly his team.
A few things wrong with this post. Lins decision making was fine all season, he had a poor game one in his first playoff game. Lins handle is fine as well so is his passing has been solid all season. I have also seen some different cross over moves & hesitation moves he just doesn't use them enough. You are suffering from recency bias. He had a poor game needs to be better but right now you are reacting based on one play off game his first playoff game. Recency bias much.
You can play in as many games as you want against top competition, but if you don't work on your skills in practice you'll never improve on those skills. You think Chris Paul got his amazing handle because he went to Wake Forest and played against D1 players? Wrong! He got his handle from hours upon hours of dribbling drills he practiced when he was completely alone. I will bet anything that in their lifetimes, Chris Paul has practiced the game of basketball much more than Jeremy Lin has, partly because Jeremy had other things to focus on in his life when he was in high school (like academics) while Paul and other current NBA PGs only had one focus: basketball.
I know that, and I just said that's why everyone sucked tonight. Lin got most of the blame because he played the worst with respect to his average game. Everyone played below average, but Lin played WELL below average. He also gets a lot of blame because he is the PG, Clutchfans always blames PGs, this goes back to Rafer, Brooks, etc.
