I can't see that. Smith can somewhat space out the offense. Asik and Jefferson would clog the lane big time. Wouldn't work with Lin and Harden.
And wins produced has him ranked 22nd among centers, right between Brandon Wright and Marcin Gortat. http://www.thenbageek.com/players?positions%5B%5D=C Jefferson TS% this season is the same as Toney Douglas(with the Rockets) this season. And check out this cool story about Jefferson's defense http://www.hickory-high.com/?p=7458
your two sites contradict each other one says Enes Kanter is one of the best and the other says he is worst then Jefferson... Having Jefferson on Offense will make everyone better on Defense... they will have more energy and less of a load... the game of basketball is about exploiting mismatches every night we will have one with Jefferson/Smith/Harden in the starting line up this will also make our bench stronger with Bev/Tjones (lil Jsmoove)/G Smtih coming off the bench
our core is very young. i wouldn't sign someone older like jefferson unless they werea superstar (dwight, paul, etc). we have a very young team, and its better to add more young pieces and let them grow together. i'm especially not interested in moving asik for jefferson. we are an average defensive team, and that move would make us a poor defensive team. if we can't get dwight/paul/love, then just add josh smith to will the hole at PF. he will put us top 10 in offense and defense as a team. maybe even top 5 in offense. i'm not in love with smith's game (outside of fantasy basketball lol) but he fits VERY well with the current rockets. he adds another go to guy on offense, a PF who can thrive in a fast break system (not easy to find) and he is a very good defensive player (which we need).
I agree with this for the most part but Al jefferson is only one year older then Asik with about 8 years more of NBA experience... Smith makes us a little better by improving our biggest hole at PF but it still doesnt give us a low post scorer... Smoove is more of a face up player... we need a back to the basket guy otherwise we are gonna end up like the Suns in Nash's glory days... great team during the season but conference finals at best come playoffs
I dont know why you guys want Josh Smith so bad when we could develop a guy like T Jones and have a bruiser like Greg Smith off the bench.
Wasn't Jefferson's TS 52.2%? And in any case, you have to look at it in the proper context. Al Jefferson creates his own shot. Average centers do not. Do you really think its fair to compare Jefferson's TS with guys likes Asik and Tyson Chandler? The more appropriate comparisons would be guys like Brook Lopez (56.7%), Roy Hibbert (48.9%), Zach Randolph (50.6%), Marc Gasol (55.9%), Lamarcus Aldridge (53%), etc... Considering the Jazz have the deepest PF/C (Jefferson/Millsap/Favors/Kanter) rotation in the league, is this really a compelling argument?
Do you think it may be possible to obtain Kanter and work on his development, instead of giving the max to Jefferson,J Smith,or Millsap? Favors has more upside than Kanter, that's why I don't think he would be obtainable.
For a guy that create his own shot, his FGs are assisted about 54%. League average is about 64%. I rather have someone of Chandler's skill set who can perform efficiently than a mediocre player like Jefferson who probably perform mediocre-ly most of the time, of which half are his post up plays. And my mistake on his TS%. Should have used nbawowy's instead of hoopdata's outdated numbers, which is where I got the average from. Ultimately, he didn't improve his team's rebounding rate, am I right?
Did you watch those youtube clips in this thread? I only watched the Jazz/Heat clip, and there were a bunch of assisted shots that he created. For instance, there were several instances where, b/c of Jefferson's low-post ability, Miami was trying to deny him the ball by fronting him in the post. When that happened, Utah would just reverse the ball and pass it to a cutting Jefferson for the dunk (at that point, the defender who was fronting him became pinned behind him). That's an assisted fg that wouldn't have been possible w/o Jefferson's low-post scoring ability. Similarly, there were a lot of assisted fg's that came from Jefferson hitting an uncontested 17 foot jump shot b/c his defender didn't want to leave the post area. My point is that there's a big difference between the assisted fgs that Jefferson gets vs the assisted fgs that guys like Asik/Chandler get. Guys like Chandler and Josh Smith would improve what we already have. Jefferson would give our offense an entirely new dynamic. That's why he'd be much more valuable to this team. And what's wrong with post up plays? How many times has a team won a championship without a dominant post player? Yep, you're right. But what conclusion are you trying to draw from that? I'm sure he would improve the rebounding rate for just about any other team.
Al Jefferson is good, but he is not very good at defense compared to Asik. Is Al a good rebounder? I'm not sure, I don't think he is... On the flip side, he is a lot better on offense than Asik. In the end, I'd still be okay with Al/Smith if it also meant improving our bench. Lin Harden Parsons Smith Jefferson. Interesting how Lin would become our worst starter in this situation. I'll say it again, Lin would be best as 6th man. It would solidify our bench. With that starting lineup, Lin wouldn't be getting many touches anyways...
Why do you have both Smith and Jefferson in your projected lineup? We don't have the cap space to sign them both, and we aren't trading Asik.
Wasn't that the basis of a trade rumor around the deadline, but the Rockets weren't interested in moving Asik for Smith?
sign and trade wasn't possible at the deadline. trading for Smith as a rental would've been horrible. not to mention, the team wouldn't have a center.
