I don't know what their motive was. I am just saying that the uncle's statement is not entirely consistent. I feel sorry for him to be in this situation, though. Clearly, he is subject to a barrage of questions and emotionally stressed.

 

I am sitting in my final med school lecture, so I am not able to watch anything.

 

That was a painful interview to watch. The uncle seems to have beaten himself up.

 

Sorry for the confusion. Possible about the corruption. Though I am thinking it doesn't matter what the motives were: the deed was still done.

There's no reason to speculate on any motive yet, but the uncle hasn't spoken with them in quite some time. I don't think he is in a position to rule a motive out.

 

That is the classless Swoly we all know. Why not simply stop trying to tell others what to do - and mellow out?

The younger suspects russian facebook says he was motivated by career and money, which conflicts with muslim extremism. The narrative doesn't fit.

I don't think you can draw fair conclusions about that from a few social media posts. Depressed, psychotic, or otherwise mentally unhealthy/unstable may not be readily apparent. There are signs that the older brother was religiously strict, but we don't know the extent that played into it. My guess is that all of these things probably combined to make a really toxic situation, and the younger brother was likely influenced heavily by the elder to feel the same way and participate.

 

There is no narrative of Muslim extremism at this point. I think everyone is being careful not assign motives to these kids. It's a very puzzling story right now.
