    Not sure how aware you are of this...but terrorists from Chechnya plagued Russia and the Russian government for quite some time.

    If you've bought into the whole "US is the Great Satan" narrative, then there's motivation there.

    Also heard one commentator on CNN say a lot of these elements from Chechnya have been in Syria fighting with Syrians against their government there....and that perhaps the motivation was that there was anger against the US for not coming down harder and providing more aid to their cause there.

    All speculation. I don't think they're going to be alive to tell us what their motivation was, frankly.
