Really? I didn't listen to the audio, but from the transcript I don't get that at all. Disappointed, maybe. But, like he said they are probably going to lose against whoever they play. Now, everyone has to do their job and figure out how to compete with the Thunder. Let's get it on.
Kinda weird for Morey to say that ebcause the one time we beat OKC this year, didnt we double Durant every time and have him pass out of it to an open Thabo/Kmart 3?
People often use any opportunity to read into Morey's words what they want to hear, but that seems to be a fairly blatant indictment on McHale's rotations in the 4th. I'm just reading the text, so I don't know how it sounds aloud.
there are three things i would like to state my opinions. 1) when they said there is no significant drop by using bev over lin, they used all #s to prove their point. unfortunately, they forgot one thing. #s don't tell who was pg on opponent team when those #s were generated. you may be able to find a pg of a high school team who has similar #s as bev's but drawing a conclusion that no significant drop using that high schooler over bev is ridiculous. 2) they talked about jvg's comment on who should be used in late of a game. Let me make it clear so no one misunderstand the issue. 1st, the question came up when lakers gradually chipped away our lead in 4Q and bev was still on the court and tv screen zoomed in on lin sitting on the bench with a towel on his head and chewing his mouth piece. clearly, they felt a little bit weird so they had that question. 2nd, jvg is always polite when talking his peers. he commented but stop short of pointing anything. combining the timing and the question, i feel they disagreed with what mchale did on using whom in late of a game. 3) when lin was subbed back into the game, the score was tied. at that moment, lakers had an uphand since they came back from behind and they had the momentum. lakers is not bad team w/o kobe. they still have howard and gasol. there is no way for rox to blow them away just because we put back out starters. if you think it in this way, you're delusional. the game was extremely tight from lin back on the court to the end of the game. i would say they played close to evenly the rest of the game. well, the big shows seems to blame lin and harden to miss those shots and made TOs. missing shots and making TO is not uncommon, especially missing shots. lakers missed shots and made TOs too. The turning point is when our lead was chipped away with our beloved backups on the court. mchale's reaction was too late. had our starters been back earlier and had our lead not completely been disappeared, the result of this game might have been totally different.
Daryl Morey doesn't want to talk about their weakness because we can't exploit it. Its the Miami Heat.
Does anyone ever question that we simply don't have the exact personnel we need because this roster wasn't pieced together to be a playoff team? No one really knew what the roster was going to look like or hell even how these guys were going to play together. Harden was signed days before the offseason. As many good, upcoming roleplayers and complimentary players we have on our team, they still have apple room for growth and learning how to exactly compliment one another and play in sync. We weren't pieced together for winning. We were pieced together with youth, upside, talent, and a a vet or too to be smooth them all out. I think these things should alleviate most of everyone's anger or disappointment.
We're not even tallking about winning a playoff game. We're talking about making the same mistakes over and over again--the isos and the small ball. The PHX and LAL games were winnable. We watched the games. Then there's the similar collapse we had last season--with a more veteran squad. But McHale also went small ball for 6 straight losses. The Rockets are capable of playing wonderful basketball. it's just ugly and embarrassing lately. Hard to cheer for
And that has nothing to do with how the roster is currently constructed? Youth and inexperience are a part of the roster.
It's more the lack of coaching. Youth and inexperience are already a given. How can you compensate for those weaknesses? Coaches failed miserably last night. For everyone to see
The team is out of sync because we are not getting the usual production from Harden. So our only option is to move the ball ala the wins vs LAC and ORL. If Harden is cold, sit him down and share the ball more.
I didn't like the lineup to start the 4th quarter win. We had Jones on the bench, and I can argue that Jones would provided more size, more energy against Gasol than Delfino did. That's where the fouls were racked up.
No it is all McHale and Harden's fault. Just because the power forward rotation is 3 rookies and a small forward doesn't matter. Just because Asik is starting for the first time is irrelevant. Just because your point guard had 30 starts before this year, and your back up is a rookie doesn't matter. Your franchise player is 23, and starting for the first time. Your "vet" is Chandler and is in his second season... Your coach had family tragedy and is in his second full season.. The team has been together for 6 months... CLEARLY none of the above are the cause of the Rockets only winning 45 games in the West (who cares if Vegas had them at 34 wins). I blame McHale and Harden...
Good point. We are a fundementally flawed team, but by design. We can't begin constructing a championship team until the foundation is in place, and unless we believe Harden can take us to that level by himself, we still have to wait for that second piece.
I dunno, I used to be one of these types of posters that would tell everyone to calm down and think of the positives. Especially last year when alot of people seemed to be ripping on Scola. Then I remembered what it was like when I used to go to Warriors games, everyone around me reacts exactly like this, when things go bad. It's part of the fun and experience of going to the game, heated emotions. When team is doing well, everyone is high fiving each other. Nobody is going around telling everyone to calm down and think of the positives, because we already know, we're just focused in the moment. We invest alot of emotion in the game and that's why there's overreactions, we're all pissed and trying to let out steam. Not really directed at you or anything, just trying to make sense of the situation at hand. Board needs more threads like the "Kevin McFail Meme". Better to laugh at this stuff, than keep it inside and/or attack other posters for not thinking the same way I do.
I wouldn't read too much into this. The coaches/front office stayed up all night breaking down OKC. Likely more a product of no sleep than anything.
