Yeah I don't know why this generation has a thing for rebooting everything and making it darker. I guess trying to give things a new "more adult" feel to it. It happened with the new Spiderman, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, Robin Hood, and the list goes on and on. However I still think they could have gone with another actor for Superman with the right frame. Oh well, maybe I'll be proven wrong.
Weren't the lines: Clark/Kal-El: "It's not an S. In my world it means 'hope'." Lois: "Well, here it looks like an S." --- Not "It stands for hope", which rings a little cheesier. I'll look at the trailer again when I get home (my workplace blocks the video).
It has. But given his origins have been rebooted a couple of times it has has been tinkered with a couple of times as well. Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_logo It's current meaning is what Geoff Johns confirmed it as "a coat of arms, as well as a symbol for hope".
I actually think it sounds familiar because it, or some portion, was used on the Gladiator soundtrack. In any case, anyone complaining about either of the new trailers is just nitpicking. I think both represent what filmmakers should strive to achieve with trailers. I have high high high hopes for this movie. As a child of the 80s, it makes me nostalgic and giddy with excitement that I will be able to experience this new generation of Superman with my boys.
2 new tv promos with a little bit of new footage in them. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/iG2FwQovkJ8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NdBDGg0EPhY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
For those that are interested WaterTower-Music.com has what is essentially 60 sec previews for all the tracks on the soundtrack for the movie on their website now. Link: http://www.watertower-music.com/releases_spotlight.php?search=WTM39426
^^ Awesome. I saw this yesterday, which is a longer track: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayl...0130506?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed I think it sounds amazing. Imagine the full 3 minutes in the link above accompanying a real high quality video summary of the Rockets season, for example.
Hans Zimmer's style. Sounds like he hired the same lady who sang for Gladiator, so the similarity is striking. Amen, brother. I was telling my wife after seeing Iron Man III how much I hate trailers these days, even if I know I'll really like the movie involved. Too hyper, too stupid, gives away too much. The Man of Steel promos have, so far, revealed just enough, and not made me feel like a Ritalin addict.
Here is a description for a new Tv spot that has not apparently aired yet. Link: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/superman_movies/news/?a=79044
Thanks for posting! After the first pass through I was going to complain and post that it reminds me too much of Batman. I stopped myself and went back through it a second time and I have to say that I changed my mind. In the second pass through I can see it characterizing Superman. My problem with it now is that it is very melancholic! So many tracks carry the downtrodden feeling. I'm expecting a really depressing movie. As it is, in my mind Superman is kind of a depressing character because he's straight forward, plays by the rules, doesn't joke around much, has a fairly sad backstory too (not as much as Batman obviously - but that's why the Dark Knight soundtracks were so dark). A couple of the tracks do sound like they can go in other movies (Gladiator, Transformers, Dark Knight) but they sound good so it's ok with me. This main theme is grand! This conjures up Superman for me because of the horns/brass association with him being ingrained in us since John Williams. However, it is still slightly melancholic with the strings being the minor but the positive horns are dominant; together they give me the idea of overcoming an emotion battering obstacle. The drums & bass give it the military beat (Superman is ever the patriot) even though the filler patterns are chaotic. Overall: very exciting! Actually the soundcloud account in your link has the promo tracks all in one track so you can listen to them all in a row without several clicks. https://soundcloud.com/watertowermusic/man-of-steel-soundtrack
