Actually, he said the opposite. He said that no legislation can prevent any act of evil and gave the example of the Boston incident. But if a law can save one person, 100 a thousand, then it is worth trying.
If you believe in state's rights shouldn't individual states be able to have different laws regarding guns?
Because each state has different laws and provisions. Somebody who is not eligible to purchase a gun from one state can just buy it from another. Just like it is legal for you or anybody to buy certain prescription drugs in Mexico but you are not allowed to bring it in. Yeah, that's a dumb law. The problem is that you are always just thinking about YOU and forget what other people can do with this loophole. I forgot which thread it was but somebody showed how Chicago (having tough gun laws) has a very high rate of gun violence which implied that it does not work. But the fact of the matter is that after some investigation, most of the guns used for violence or crimes were imported in.
Most of the guns used are illegally purchased. The problem isn't interstate commerce, it is the black market.
The problem is that no one is willing to come to an agreement where everyone gets something good. This amendment was reasonable and all interstate sales and transportation had to be done a certain way. It also provided millions for mental health as well as stricter enforcement against breaking gun laws. It seems that none of this is about guns or people's safety. It is all political jockeying.
Except that Cruz tried to filibuster the bill. That should tell you about how much political jockeying that amendment actually was.
Hmm, maybe I'm wrong but wasn't the sandy hook weirdo able to get a hold of powerful firearms bc he had a gun-nut mom who trained him to use them but failed to keep them locked away even though she knew the dude was a mentally unstable wackjob? I'm pro making guns harder to get, and I'd assume only non-law abiding citizens and crazy folks would oppose a law that helped keep guns out of the hands of criminals and folks with mental issues. But this incident would not have been prevented by any current laws that are being proposed I imagine. It's an isolated incident that occured because of an irresponsible parent and her love for her son that blinded her to the fact that he's a certified wacko. I imagine the kid wouldn't have been able to kill those kids if she didn't have a gun fetish though, but thats just mho.
Really? What are the internet sales of guns that need regulating? How are they not regulated now? It was terrible, vague policy that fits the agenda of making firearms regulations difficult to navigate.
Are both sides guilty of political jockeying? Yes. Was the amendment proposed good for both sides? Yes
New York has a ban on conceal and carry. We like it that way. What you are proposing is states that have these laws would have to allow people from other states the right to conceal and carry. no thanks
No, the amendment was all gun transported to other state have to be unloaded, locked in the car, or in the trunk. Nothing about carrying.
Somehow the rhetoric changed from gunshow loophole to universal background checks. Way to get up to speed on that. Online sales is the new meaningless term. Also, your side continues to lose, and lose and lose on this issue.
