[NEWS] Explosions near Boston Marathon Finish Line (UPDATE: MIT/Watertown shootout w/ suspects)

Don't know if I'll ever make it, but I'm set to try. 3hrs 5 minutes is pretty fast. Only 6 out of 174 people from my local major marathon race finished that fast. 7 minute mile.

Really? So tell me how this works - wingnuts and the NY post internet sleuths wrongly ID guy - guy is later cleared - unsourced, unconfirmed report of him being deported because he's like totallly al qaeda or somethign means they're right, because when the gov't finds who's responsible for this, the preferred remedy is to secretly give him a one-way ticket back to Riyadh and not bother with a trial etc.

This is the kind of stuff I was worried about regarding trying to solve this case on social media. There is too much misinformation going on out there and all it takes is some zealous internet denizens to ruin someone's life just based on speculation.

I tend to agree but the media hasn't done any better. If anything, CNN in particular, has done a horrible job on this.

life ruined probably not. he needs to get a lawyer and sue (libel) any news and quasi-news website including the post. if he could prove the feds where NOT seeking him he'll win since that is a false statement.

Okay, so just to be clear (minus all the dumb arguments in this thread)....

The guys spotted via the department store camera have been cleared? Or are these 2 guys with the FB accounts different guys?

 

This is the problem though with the Internet. While he might be able to sue news sources what about all of those people out in social media posting his picture saying he is the Boston Marathon Bomber?

What if some internet zealots get it in their head that this is the guy and start an Anonymous like campaign against him? Who would he sue in that case?

 

The FBI does apparently have 2 suspects based on video footage, and reports say that they are planning to release images of them today. They are NOT the guys that the NY Post plastered on the front page of their paper. Those guys are innocent.

Usually, terrorist organizations and psychos will take responsibility within a day or two. This is just strange to me.
