That afternoon show is the Honey Boo Boo of sports Radio. Mindless drivel that gets ratings because most people are idiots.
He only started ripping the Rockets after they moved to 790am. 610 gets good ratings because they're the home of the Texans and people aren't informed enough to go down the dial and try different stations. 610 could have a r****ded mute hosting the show and still win the ratings war. Instead they've got a r****ded motormouth in Innes. I mean have you all ever seen Innes, he really looks like he has down syndrome. If that's the case we should all be inspired that he has been able to accomplish as much as he has in his life.
Actually, it's worse than that. He dislikes the Rockets because he has a beef with people (not players) in the organization. Apparently, they don't worship the ground he walks on, so he actively roots against the team. The Astros, on the other hand, "know their place," so he's cool with them.
Really? The only reason I listen to them lately is because of the Astros kicking Charlie and Lance off the air. Ridiculous. Is he the one that got into it with Morey on the air?
He also rips the Rockets because he doesn't want to bother talking about basketball, mostly because he doesn't know much about basketball. No insight at all with that guy, just fart jokes. I totally get why people listen, generally, people aren't all that bright.
You see, what happened is this: 610 used to suck far less. But then 790 and 1560 lured away the talent. So 610 was left with middle-aged corporate suckups (Rich Lord, Mark Vandermeer) who won't upset the apple cart; why would they mess with all that accrued yearly vacation and nice salary? So, the station juggles its lineup here and there. How do we get YOUNG? How do we get EDGY? We've become kinda stodgy. Well, they're still stodgy, but in their effort to appeal to the young beer drunks at Buffalo Wild Wings, they bring in Josh Innes, the brash say-anything douche-hole who didn't get his teeth knocked down his throat years ago (as he deserved) and so still acts and speaks with impunity. In fact, thanks to the laziness of Houston sports viewers who don't know to simply skip over to 790, Innes/Lord has a highly-rated show. Innes is so full of himself he thinks the high ratings are thanks to him. Thing is, could they seriously not find someone local? Innes' contempt for the local sports scene is tiresome. Not that Innes could spell "sports" if you spotted him an s, p, o, and r. When Morey told him in an interview "I thought you'd ask tougher questions", Innes unleashed the beast; newly freed from the constraints of pandering to Morey (the Rockets had just moved to 790), Innes becomes rude---no, more than rude; snarky, boorish. Which is Innes' idea of hard-hitting journalism. Even New York radio hosts might have cringed at Innes that day. And Morey took a long time to call in again, but never with Innes on the air. I keep hoping Innes will shoot himself in the foot and force the station owners to fire him. Edgy is one thing. Juvenile is another.
Why do you guys that complain about it listen to it? I used to listen to them back on the days when Winston would be on to talk to them. Hated Josh and Rich but enjoyed Winston's commentary on stuff so I would live with them for an hour a week. As soon as Winston left, I haven't listened to them for a second. If 790 has Astros on I'll just listen to music on my drive home from work. I listen to sports radio to be entertained (not really much in the way of quality sports analysis out there plus our music stations are godawful). I don't see how so many of you can hate/listen as much as you do. Ya'll are like the Walking Dead guys who watch then just b**** about all the shows faults afterwards. If you don't like it don't watch/listen.
What AM610 has done right is latch themselves to the Texans. They would be dead without them because their on-air talent is sorry. It works out well IMO. AM790 has hosts worth listening to no matter what the subject (except, of course, the Astros). AM610 rides the Texans like a tick and is good for listening to games, press conferences, etc.
I don't listen. I complain because I grew up in a Houston that only had 610. Lance & John G in the morning. Rome during lunch time. Charlie & Rich drive time. Matt & whoever his long list of co-hosts in the evening. While I hate the current incarnation of 610 I have nostalgia for the station which I grew up with to get its **** together and realize they suck. Didn't their programming director get canned recently? Maybe they bring in someone that knows what he's doing to clean house.
I agree with you I used to listen to those shows too when I used to work my summer jobs in high school. I understand the complaining but those guys who post "I hate that show omg josh was saying this that and the other yesterday!!" gets annoying. Those kinda guys are exactly what the station wants (other than the mindless drones that will listen to whatever the Texans station is). People who listen because they want to hear what stupid thing he's gonna say next.
Since 99% of their on air talents are out of town transplants who don't know much about the local teams and many are unabashed in saying they follow other teams they grew up with, I'm apathetic towards them. They seem to have made Rich Lord their poster boy for the ideal radio host to hire; an out of towner who doesn't know much about sports, but brings a niche to the table that somehow keeps the listener from changing the channel since 610 is probably one of the first stations a casual sports radio listener will flip to. In Rich's case, he's an affable PC company guy who won't rock the boat.
They don't talk about the Rockets or Astros because they don't get any calls on the Rockets or Astros. They don't get any calls on the Rockets or Astros because 60% of their listeners can't watch the Rockets or Astros on TV. None of the other stations are getting calls about the Rockets or Astros either. Charlie Pallilo complains about it all the time. The new PD started about a month ago, I believe.
you don't like my teams, get off my lawn! I haven't listened to sr610 since the pats beat us down. I might listen to draft show just because mark v and andre1989 usually handle that.
